Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based sludge metal/post-hardcore band Unfurl presents their third full-length album, »Ascension«, which was just released on June 2nd, 2023.

»Ascension« is the culmination of 8 years writing, honing, and sharpening the blade of Unfurl’s repertoire. Each of the 8 songs on display was refined to rigorous demand. The lyrical content and instrumentation are influenced by dreams, nightmares, and visions to paint a surrealistic picture for the listener to remove themselves from the daily grind and into a world of Unfurl’s creation. A kaleidoscope of shapeshifting sounds, colors, and landscapes forming their most expansive outing yet.

To quote the band on the theme of the album “It was written, recorded, and influenced heavily by the pandemic. Lyrically it takes the form of a eulogy written for the world as we knew it. Dwelling on themes such as mental health, human rights and social inequality. The revelations and inevitable acceptance of a bygone era. The apocalypse for an audience of one.”
