“»Rotator« is a varied-style psych album with lots of layering. This project brings together all the elements I’ve been experimenting with (fuzzy riffs, punk energy, acoustic ideas, synths, krautrock) and puts them together in one world.

I was inspired by albums from Ween and the Beatles, where you expect every song to be different, with the song itself coming first instead of forcing everything to fit in one style. »Rotator« as a title is a slight reference to Revolver, which has that varied approach. So the album rotates between styles.

It basically combines the previous two albums (»Stonerism« and »Fractal Exploder«), while introducing synths and krautrock elements. Certain songs take the acoustic tones and layering of Fractal Exploder and expand them into full songs. I hope you enjoy!”

Everything by Austin Barnette.

“»Exit 7th« was wrote and recorded in collaboration with Vince MacDonald on drums. This is the first ZV album to have another performer on it, and his unique drumming style/ideas really bring a whole new energy to the band. The album would not be possible without his addition. We recorded it live as a duo in the upstairs of a barn, then bass and minimal overdubs were added after.

Some songs were done in one take, and some were a few different takes stitched together. There was lots of bleed between the mics, so it has more of a raw, lofi, live feel. I wanted to really capture the sound of us playing in that room and the live energy of it.

»Exit 7th«’s songs blend stoner rock, garage-y punk, grunge, blues, and doom inspired riffs. This album focuses more on the limitation of making songs with just one guitar, one vocal, and drums, rather than having lots of harmonies and layering. The limitation of that one particular tone and set up forced us to get creative with dynamics and find new ways to create contrast other than stacking tracks.

The ending track was a 20 minute improv jam, which was then cut up and reordered into one 14 minute song.

Also this album will be available on vinyl, which will be announced soon! Thanks hope you enjoy!”
