Hidden Gems & Guilty Pleasures: Imperishable (Sweden)

Imperishable (Death Metal // Sweden)
Sweden has established itself as one of the premier breeding grounds for extreme outings within the music industry in recent decades. Offering a sonic blend of the Swedish and Floridian death metal soundscapes, while augmenting it with melodic excursions not too far off from 80s metal giants, Gothenburg’s Imperishable emerge with a masterclass of uncompromising quality. »Come, Sweet Death«, the debut full-length release from these Swedes, was unleashed two years into the band’s existence.
Imperishable’s debut »Come, Sweet Death« manages to stand out from the pack, in no small part due to breaking away from the genre’s usual trappings. And in a way this is no surprise since the band members were or are involved in Vampire, Portrait, Nominon and Dr. Living Dead.
With their new album »Swallowing The World«, Imperishable sharpens their signature blend of melody and aggression, diving deeper into the sonic territory carved out by pioneers like Necrophobic, Death and At The Gates. This album isn’t just a nostalgic dive; it’s a reinvention of Swedish death metal’s most melodic side, set to make its mark on the modern scene.
Imperishable teamed up with none other than Andy LaRocque at Sonic Train Studios (At The Gates, Lord Belial, King Diamond), who handled recording, mixing, and mastering duties. LaRocque’s production brings out the album’s intricate layers and gives its melodic elements room to breathe without sacrificing a shred of brutality.
With aggressive riffing that’s both blistering and melodic, »Swallowing The World« is more than a throwback, it’s a forward stride in the genre, proving that melodic death metal can be as fierce as it is haunting.

While their musical output oftentimes remains firmly within the framework set by their predecessors, Imperishable takes a quite different turn lyrically, as they diverge from the subject matters frequently utilized in this genre. Says the band: “Religious topics, gore or occult mumbo jumbo never appealed to us. There are a few bands that execute those themes in a respectable fashion, but personally we prefer to write about something that isn’t made up. Addiction and death is real, and something the vast majority of listeners will relate to.”
Visually, Juanjo Castellano (Vomitory, Skeletal Remains, Coffins) crafted the album’s cover art, capturing the album’s dark, epic feel and adding a final grim touch.
Be sure to keep an eye on this promising act. »Swallowing The World« is out April 11th, 2025 on Hammerheart Records. Order your copy HERE.
