Canadian doom metal band Norilsk will release the live rehearsal album »Gigantes Mortui« on November 7, 2025 through Hypnotic Dirge Records, in digital, CD and cassette. The record marks the band’s first decade and captures the current line-up performing together in their rehearsal space. »Le puits de l’oubli« is the fourth preview from their upcoming release.
The band comments: “This is a great, long, epic Norilsk song. It has a bit of everything, from desolate rhythms in the beginning to black vibes in the middle, and a few consecutive endings. This is one of the band’s favourites, and one that we can always rely on to open a show. »Le puits de l’oubli« was originally released on the album »Le passage des glaciers« (2017).”
»Gigantes Mortui« will be available on CD, digital, and a limited cassette edition (exclusively through the band). Pre-orders are open through both Hypnotic Dirge and Norilsk’s own Bandcamp.

»Gigantes Mortui« celebrates Norilsk’s first ten years with new live-in-the-room versions of songs from across the catalogue, recorded with the stability and chemistry of the current line-up. Tom Hansen and Matt MacIvor joined in 2016 and 2017, and the band revisited its discography to re-arrange material with the live feel these tracks have gained on stage. The result presents their atmospheric death doom songs with an immediate and organic sound.
The tracklist spans early material and later highlights. »Ghosts of Loss«, first heard on the 2017 album »Le passage des glaciers«, has evolved through years of live performances. The closing piece, »No Sacred Ground«, is described by the band as an homage to the pilgrims of doom, the artists and listeners who travel to the heart of underground live music. Physical editions will include a very limited CD in a four-panel digipack and a Maltese cross deluxe cassette.
