Doomed Confessionary: Tomasz “Polew” Plewako (Devil In The Name)

Devil In The Name is an occult doom rock outfit hailing from Katowice, Poland. The band was formed in August 2013 in the capital of Silesia – Katowice on the initiative of Adam Bugajski and Tomasz “Polewa” Plewako.

Devil In The Name is a dark journey through occult rock, stoner/doom metal and hard rock. Through fear and hell of the will of the human mind. The music combined with dark and psychedelic lyrics is a mixture of genres and climates. The band draws inspiration from artists such as Black Sabbath, Danzig, Pentagram, Motörhead, The Obssessed, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats and many more.

Their long-awaited second studio album »Black Stone« was released on March 8th, 2025 through Polish label Case Studio.

Devil In The Name consists of Piotr Palonek on vocals, Tomasz “Polew” Plewako on guitar, Rafał “RastaV” Buniakowski on bass and Błażej Parusel on drums.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
The band has been around for almost 15 years. We’ve had many vocalist changes, which is probably why we only have two albums. There’s so much history that I encourage everyone to visit our website.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Every challenge is difficult; every success and failure makes us stronger people and better musicians.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We enjoy playing concerts; one of the most interesting was a concert with Crowbar, and they shared a few kind words about our music.

What was your biggest regret?
Time wasted on inappropriate contacts and people who underestimate others and their time.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
All concerts are important, and we approach each one with full commitment and dedication. These concerts give us the strength to act. We’ve played over 250 of them and we’re looking forward to the next ones.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Discovering Black Sabbath, Danzig, Dust, Kyuss, Brimston Coven, and most recently, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Very diverse. Lots of blues, classic hard rock, metal, black metal, and jazz.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
A guitarist from an Italian band once said, “Don’t worry about anything, just play.”

What are your guilty pleasures?
Not punctuality.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Poland?
The scene is doing well in Poland, but there are a lot of poseurs and narrow-minded and envious people.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ll play 3 or 4 more concerts in Poland this year, including with Christ Agony. Next year we’ll also play in the Czech Republic. We’ll see what happens next.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’ll prepare material for a new album and then concerts until we have enough strength.

How can people best support your band?
Invite us to concerts and share our music.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Be yourselves. Be true and strong. Don’t let anyone tell you how to live.
