Doomed Confessionary: Fanch Le Corre (Stonebirds)

Stonebirds is a French post-metal trio formed in 2008 and hailing from Central Brittany – a land that has never ceased to fuel their songwriting and distinctive sound. Abandoned villages, forgotten inhabitants, landscapes left behind by the modern economy, ghostly places haunted by ancient legends and contemporary rural decay, oppressive dampness, storm-lit horizons… These images feed an anguished and tormented doom metal, giving birth to their debut album »Into The Fog… And The Filthy Air« in 2015.
Since then, Stonebirds have continued to evolve, channeling the raw spirit of their homeland into music that is as haunting as it is hypnotic. With new material on the horizon, the band remains a vital force in the underground, forging ahead with the same unflinching intensity that has defined their journey thus far.
For over a decade, Stonebirds have thrived on duality: the eternal tension between opposing forces, with melancholy as their guiding equilibrium. With their fourth and final album »Perpetual Wasteland«, released in October 2025 via Ripple Music, the trio distills their essence one last time: light against darkness, crushing weight against fragile levity, and a newfound undercurrent of renewal amidst the void.
Stonebirds (still) are Fanch Le Corre (guitars, vocals, keyboards), Sylvain Collas (bass, vocals), and Antoine Delhumeau (drums, keyboards).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Stonebirds is a sludge/post/doom band from Brittany (France). We’ve released 4 albums, 1 split and 1 ep. Our last album: »Perpetual Wasteland« came out in October 2025 on Ripple Music.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The biggest challenge is the same for every band, try to make the band grow and play as much you can in interesting places/venues/festival.
What can you be most proud of so far?
I think we wrote 4 good albums with each its own music colour. Every album have its own personality, texture and story we’ve done what we really wanted on those. That gave us a chance to play with artist we like and on big events as the Hellfest or the motocultor festival for example.
What was your biggest regret?
The Covid! We released our 3rd album a few days before the pandemy and couldn’t play and spread »Collapse And Fail« live. That album have been written to be more frontal and I think the live experience of it should have been great.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
I have two to be honest, the best concert must be the Hellfest one in front of thousands people, it was an awesome experience. The best tour for me is our first one in France, playing in small clubs, I don’t remember any specific gig but I keep an absolute feeling of fun every night with our booker Thib and people we met.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Not sure to understand well but younger the directors cut by Fantômas and Mr. Bungle surprised me a lot and open my mind on different music. Nowadays, in a good way their are bands like Igorrr, the post-punk scene “revival”…
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’m really obsessed with »Blackwater Park« by Opeth since a few month. »Dissonance Theory« by Coroner, agriculture and the classics: Mastodon, Deftones, Gojira…
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
To take music seriously maybe, to really work on it… But that advice can not be a good one for everyone, music can be done just for fun too, it’s just that spending time smoking, drinking and laughing in a rehersal room instead of playing is a waste of time for me.z
What are your guilty pleasures?
Peated whisky from Islay island. I newly discovered a Swedish one too, Mackmyra which is really good and if you guys can find it the kornog whisky from Britain is a banger.
Musically, I don’t feel guilty about that but I listen a lot to American punk rock bands as NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Brittany?
There’s a lot of good band in Brittany such as Fange, Regarde les Hommes Tomber, Muterlein… but I don’t think we have a special music scene exept the traditional one. There’s less and less venues since Covid and it’s getting harder for new bands to play live.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We will make a few last gigs this year, we’re working on it and I think it will be mostly in France.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Bury the band in fire! »Perpetual Wasteland« was our last album and Stonebirds will be over after the few gigs we will have this year.
How can people best support your band?
By buying our albums and sharing our music.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks for your support and hope you will enjoy our music.
