Doomed Confessionary: Pablo, Daniel, Alejandro & Rubén (Khayrava)

Khayrava is a four-piece post-metal band from Almería, Spain. The band consists of Pablo Cádiz Monteagudo (rhythm guitar, vocals), Daniel Carbayo Crespo (drums), Alejandro Torres María (bass) and Rubén Uclés Juárez (lead guitar, backing vocals).
Blending doom, post-metal, black metal, ambient and shoegaze into into a sound that moves between dense, oppressive heaviness and atmospheric, introspective passages, their music stems from psychedelic doom roots but has evolved toward a more textural and emotional approach, where weight, space and melody coexist.
In 2025, Khayrava released their debut EP »Ghost Pain«, capturing the dual nature and layered dynamics that define our current sound.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
We don’t like to confine ourselves to a single genre, but the styles that have influenced us the most are probably doom, ambient, and blackgaze. We try to combine heavy, slow passages with more atmospheric and emotional textures. For us, the music is about creating a mood and a space rather than just playing riffs.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Probably the biggest challenge we face is maintaining consistency as a band. We all have our regular jobs and personal responsibilities, so sometimes it’s difficult to find time when everyone can rehearse or work on new material together.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Without a doubt, releasing our first EP »Ghost Pain« and receiving such positive feedback and reviews has been our proudest achievement so far.
What was your biggest regret?
Probably not being able to play more live shows, especially outside our region. Playing live is something we really enjoy, and we hope to do it more often in the future.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Happy Moi, in November 2025. We had the honor of playing alongside many local bands at an independent festival organized in our city. It was an amazing experience and the atmosphere that night was really special.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Probably the amount of great music that is constantly being released by smaller or underground bands. It’s very inspiring to see how many artists are creating interesting things outside the mainstream.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
We listen to a wide variety of music, but some of the bands currently in heavy rotation for us are Amenra, Deafheaven, and Holy Fawn.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
To focus on making the music you genuinely want to hear instead of trying to follow trends or expectations. Authenticity always resonates more than imitation.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Probably things that have nothing to do with heavy music. Sometimes after listening to very intense or dark music for hours, it’s nice to switch to something completely different, like pop, old rock classics, or even movie soundtracks.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Almería?
Almería has a very interesting and active music scene, even if it isn’t widely known or especially popular. There are great bands such as Bälate, Erial, Loudly, Palmeras Negras, Falsas Nubes, among others. Many more deserve to be mentioned, and many of them probably wouldn’t exist without the seed planted years ago by The Dry Mouths.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We don’t have confirmed dates yet. Right now we’re finishing a new live set, and once we complete a couple more songs we’ll most likely start booking shows.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
There are many plans, and it’s always hard to know where to begin, but the most important one right now is to focus on writing and preparing what will hopefully become our first full-length LP.
How can people best support your band?
Listening to the EP, sharing the music with friends, coming to our shows, and supporting underground bands in general. In scenes like ours, every bit of support really makes a difference.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for listening and for giving new bands a chance. We truly appreciate everyone who spends time with our music.
