Christian Krank comments: “Let’s talk about the cover of the upcoming 4th album of Phantom Winter – the first incarnation of it started late 2019 as art for a tourposter of a tour that never happened cause of Corona. The art was actually deeply inspired by the movie poster for »Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders«. There only was the single female character with the Crow Guy standing behind her. I called him The Blackest Crow which is a line from the lyrics of »Into Dark Science«.

Andreas liked the art so we saved it for the 4th album which was in the works at that time. I came up with another art for the tour. To match the concept of the album we later added a younger version of the girl to the cover. I was reading The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún at that time, which also became an influence to the art. The whole art of the album will be like a illustrated fairy tale book with each song having a illustration of the girl protagonist. I will post them somewhen else with more background stuff »Her Cold Materials« will be released via This Charming Man Records on October 27th, 2023.”

This Charming Man Records proudly announces the new album of German doomers Phantom Winter! The band’s fourth full-length »Her Cold Materials« will be released on October 27th 2023 and is a coming-of-age folk horror tale about an adolescent woman. The name is derived from Philip Pullman’s cycle of novels, »His Dark Materials«, about a teenage girl who must find herself and save her world.

A first song, entitled »Flamethrowers«, can be checked out at this location!

When instrumental doom act Omega Massif announced its break-up, members Andreas Schmittfull and Christof Rath reformed under the name Phantom Winter. The aim was to create extreme music. They called the style “Winterdoom”.

Melancholy meets cold and anger. The drumming is brutal and staccato-like, reminding on machines and monstrosities. Lots of noise, lots of anger, lots of doom, post and even black metal elements, apocalyptic scenarios set to music, dense atmosphere, subtle guitar melodies, a bit of drone, sometimes compact and sometimes epic. Phantom Winter weave all these components lovingly and serve the whole outcome on top level with ornaments next to loads of dirt. Their live performances are always intense and angry, visitors like to compare them to church services.

Phantom Winter is:
Christian Krank – Vocals
Andreas Schmittfull – Guitars, Vocals
Florian Brunhuber – Guitars
Kevin Gärtner – Bass
Christof Rath – Drums
