Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Luke O, Adam, Lyndon, Gaz & Luke D (Son Of Boar)

Son Of Boar are a stoner/doom metal band hailing from Bradford, UK. Since 2018 they have played up and down the UK, have cemented their name and brand of northern doom out into the heavy underground music scene.

Since the release of their self-titled debut album in 2021, Son Of Boar have played shows with names such as Nebula, Conan, Fatso Jetson and many more, as well as Festivals Bloodstock, Riffolution, Ruination, Hammerfest & Masters Of The Riff.

Fuzz laden riffs, thunderous drums, rumbling bass and roaring vocals epitomise the grim north of which they are a product of. Whether it is the green fields and rolling hills, or the harsh cold stone of their surroundings, Son Of Boar write the soundtrack to their city.

Son Of Boar consists of Luke Oliver (vocals), Adam Waddell (guitar), Lyndon Birchall (guitar), Gareth Bates (bass) and Luke Doran (drums).

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Luke D: Yeah, we are Son Of Boar, a progressive doom band from magnificent Bradford, in beautiful Yorkshire, England. We tend to mix things up with a bit of stoner, a bit of sludge, and lots of heavy riffage. We’ve been going for around 8 years now and we’re the friendliest bunch of miserable bastards you’ll ever meet!

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Gaz: Time and money, we have families and full time jobs. Sometimes its hard to find the time to put in to managing our social media or booking tours, but we try our best.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Adam: I am most proud of the fact we got to play the UK’s biggest metal festival, Bloodstock, one that we’re eager to get back to.

What was your biggest regret?
Lyndon: I think our biggest regret to date, is not biting the bullet on a European tour before Brexit screwed us all over.

We were literally in the middle of booking our first visit weekender, with a date in Germany already confirmed when both Brexit & Covid hit us.

Fingers crossed we’ll still get there!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Luke O: My best tour was probably the first Scottish tour we did with a band called Deadeyes.

We had some great gigs up there and we got to meet Deadeyes.

The best gig on that run was probably the one we did with a band called Harbingers Drum Crew, I can’t remember the name of the place I just remember they changed the name the next time we went up. There were people stage diving for us which blew our minds. Was just an all round good gig.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Luke D: For me at first it was the quality and quantity of the bands in the doom scene. My previous bands were mostly punk, so getting into doom stuff it was surprising how active a scene there is and how awesome some of the bands are. Like, why haven’t I heard of these before!? Barbarian Hermit, Battalions, Psychlona, Ironrat – loads of others that were already established when we were just getting going and they’re all awesome.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Gaz: Well its coming up to Halloween so theres a few movie soundtracks like Jerry Goldsmiths ‘Alien’ music, Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch by Alan Howarth and John Carpenter. I’m also a big country fan so ive had a lot of The Lost Street Dog Band and Benjamin Todd, then some Amenra and Crippling Alcoholism thrown in there too, and also a hell of alot of dungeon synth, specifically Erang and Mountain Realm.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Adam: As a writer, write to always serve the song.

As a performer, to just enjoy playing on stage whether it’s in front of 3 people or 3000 people.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Lyndon: It’s gotta be The Vengaboys!

We can doom it up all night, pull stank faces like mean mofos, and nod slowly to dirty fuzzy riffs – but when you have to spend 5 hours in a cramped van, HUNGOVER, with 4 other sweaty moshers, nothing else brings up my vibe than a venga-bus party!

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Bradford?
Luke O: Bradford has a pretty good scene and some great bands. There could be more venues but the ones we do have put on some great nights with the help of some really good promoters.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Luke D: At the moment we’re in the middle of planning our shows for next year, with a few things still waiting to be announced, so we can’t say much! Just keep an eye on our socials and we’ll be announcing things as soon as we can. We love to gig so you’ll have plenty of chances to see us, don’t worry!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Gaz: We finished recording our 2nd album this year, so next year we will be releasing it, we are just shopping it about at the moment. The plan is to then gig like crazy and get some momentum back. We have had a quiet year but we aim to be back with a new energy.

How can people best support your band?
Adam: Like, comment on and share our posts, buy merch, mention us to your friends, word of mouth is a powerful thing!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Lyndon: Thank you!

Thank you, for your years of love and support. Buying our merch and keeping us going. We’re currently in the market of getting album 2 distributed, with a further release also recorded and ready to go. In the meantime, we’re back to jamming at HQ, working on new riffs.
