Video by Helena Papageorgiou (animator) and Jon Weber (painter).

ABOUT THE SONG

Drawing inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece »2001: A Space Odyssey«, Observers blast out a mix of spacey prog metal on »Frank Poole’s Dream«, the latest single from their NPR New Music Friday favourited debut album »The Age Of The Machine Entities«. Featuring celestial synths, crushingly heavy guitar riffage, and soaring melodies, PROG magazine say it’s “as heavy as anything served up by the similarly intergalactically minded prog metal travellers Gojira”.

“A bold sound that’s worthy of standing in proximity to the science fiction masterpiece”

ABOUT THE VIDEO

The video of »Frank Poole’s Dream« by acclaimed animator Helena Papageorgiou and painter Jon Weber gives us a darkly gothic take on »2001: A Space Odyssey«. Complete with dead astronauts, giant obelisks, eerie spider tripods, and a Stargate full of skulls, the video tells us the story of what REALLY happened to Frank Poole, after he was murdered by the out of control AI HAL9000.

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Following up on the single »Frozen Lattices Of Light«, Martin Kennedy of All India Radio fame brings us the cosmic doom epic »The Age Of The Machine Entities«, his new instrumental band Observers’ debut album. Set to be released into the universe on March 4, 2024, »The Age Of The Machine Entities« is a fusion of artistic brilliance that pays homage to the timeless mystery of »2001: A Space Odyssey«.

With decades of experience honing his craft in ambient rock outfit All India Radio, Kennedy pivots into the dark expanses of doom metal with Observers. His mastery of mood and atmosphere proves a natural fit, and across nine tracks the listener is treated to an instrumental reimagining of Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C Clark’s sci-fi epic.

Tonally, the darkness and mystery that define 2001 are at the heart of »The Age Of The Machine Entities«, and Observers chart a musical course through Dave Bowman’s journey into the unknown. Strap in for takeoff with the searing guitars of opener »Into The Eye«, and brace for the appropriately heart-pounding rush of »Pod Bay Doors«, featuring a mind-melting solo from Psycroptic’s Joe Haley, who also recorded the album.

“A dark, epic trek through the cosmos… atmospheric, melodic, and full of menace and wonder”

Dave isn’t the only star of the show, and the tragic Frank gets his due in the crushing »Frank Poole’s Dream«, a battering ram of drums and chugging guitars sprinkled with short-lived moments of spacey drift and soaring melody.

After passing through the forlorn valleys of »Moon Doom« and witnessing the shimmering »Star Child«, what lies at the end of Observers’ interstellar journey? None other than a brutally heavy cover of Pink Floyd »Umma Gumma« deep cut »The Narrow Way Part II«, a fittingly grandiose finale.

»The Age Of The Machine Entities« is exactly what it sets out to be – a dark, epic trek through the cosmos, conveyed through Kennedy’s molding of doom metal into a sound that’s atmospheric, melodic, and full of menace and wonder. But be warned, and prepare yourself for Observers to come aboard. Because without your space helmet, Dave? You’re going to find that rather difficult.
