Extreme metal outfit ITHOM drops death & drone two-track »End Credits«!

»End Credits«, the newest release by extreme metal band ITHOM (in this house of mourning), represents the next evolution of the group’s sound and general purview. Dedicated to exploring all of the chasms of heavy music, »End Credits« is thematic in its approach.

Covered In Mud And Feces:
»Covered In Mud And Feces« is the most ripping, intense song the band has ever recorded. Taking inspiration from Morbid Angel, Slayer, and Coffinworm, the song begins with a dissonant lead line, meant to startle and wake the listener up. For the first time, composer and band leader Ben Ianuzzi demonstrates his melodic and solo chops, entrancing the listener with jagged lines and harmonized sections reminiscent of 80s metal. The rhythm of the song is rooted in old school death metal, centered on an atonal, chromatic progression which creates a trance like state meant to lull the listener and draw them into a nightmare.

Lyrically, Ianuzzi is bolder than ever. The song is meant to illustrate just how far along the human race is heading towards its own self imposed annihilation. To quote Iannuzzi, “Looking at our society, it’s hard not to imagine a half fed, starving, incompetent skeleton shackled to a wall, being doused in God-knows-what from up above. Fluids pouring through a sewer grate, soaking the poor bastard, and all the while they have the key to release themself and escape. Yet, they don’t. They just sit there and take it. Get used to the smell and feeling of being covered in a slime of their own making.”

End Credits:
While »Covered In Mud And Feces« is the fastest, most intense version of ITHOM to date, the title track, »End Credits«, is over 40 minutes of atmospheric, narrative drone, embracing harsh noise, oscillation, and the power of analog synthesizers.

According to Ianuzzi, “»End Credits«, as a song, began with a series of fairly well known statements and interviews from some well known folks that are no longer with us. It’s funny – the word “cult leader” is often so derogatory and pejorative.

Society sits, wonders, and considers how and why someone might believe that a comet could transport them elsewhere, or that a judgement day is coming, or that an alien abduction could take away the pain of an otherwise meaningless life.

We demonize folks like this- call them stupid and gullible, and mock them for wanting something more than what politicians have promised us. Often, the people making these accusations and pointing their fingers are also the same people that believe human beings can part seas, or that water can become wine, or that ancient tablets are buried somewhere with the word of God on them.

In thinking about these realities, »End Credits« came to life. Only in a world this fucked, with this many signs of how fucked all of us are, can mass suicide be considered an irrational decision. Maybe our politicians, preachers, and caretakers are the irrational ones. Maybe the truly irrational people are the ones trying to justify AI, justify tech billionaires becoming the new oligarchy, and justify the terror and horror happening in our schools, on our streets, and in our day to day lives.”

“As I thought about these concepts, and considered the ideas of these infamous historical figures, it became obvious to me that their words needed to be sampled, and could only be accompanied by hissing, noise, and fuzzed out synthesizers. It’s a long song, but to me, an absolutely worthwhile listen, possibly under chemical influence. My hope is that the samples heard on the track will have new meaning with a wall of sound behind them.”

Ultimately, what matters most to ITHOM is creating and producing music. It is a band that will never be pigeonholed into a single static genre, hence its own self labeling as an extreme metal act – which is limitless in meaning. As the band continues to write, so will the intensity of the sound. Inspired by bands like Dragged Into Sunlight, Primitive Man, Lord Mantis and many others, ITHOM sees itself growing into a band in which nothing is sacred or off the table, and cements itself as a paradigm of extreme music in the years to come.
