Twelve years after its official release, Viaje a 800 presents us today with a deluxe version of »Coñac Oxigenado«, which includes previously unreleased songs and versions. The band from Algeciras will be presenting it live in a series of exclusive dates starting on May 11th in Granada.

The story of Viaje a 800 was never easy, filled with blank spaces, lineup changes, canceled tours, and tremendous self-demand. However, with only three studio albums and a split shared with Los Natas released between 1999 and 2012, they managed to establish themselves as a reference point in Spain with a style that evolved from heavy blues and primitive stoner rock to heavy psych and progressive rock, with a marked influence from Andalusian folklore. They knew how to create a way of writing that has withstood the test of time and today positions them as an influence for many contemporary artists.

“Underrated at their time, Viaje a 800 continues to be the best rock band to emerge from Spain. Highly recommended.” — JJ Koczan, The Obelisk

“Delicious. The heavy blues textures, psychedelic and progressive layers, and hints of Andalusian rock shape a work that can stand toe-to-toe with any classic of the genre. From Algeciras, the magnum opus of the most lysergic underground. They paved the way for dozens of bands that would emerge later.” — Vicente Merino, Ruta 66

Their latest studio album, »Coñac Oxigenado« (2012, Alone Records), is being re-released today through the Cadiz-based label Spinda Records (which has been re-releasing their entire discography over the last five years) in a deluxe edition that includes two distinct versions of this album. On one hand, the 2009 version, recorded analogically at Doghouse Studios in Seville by Curro Ureba; and on the other hand, the 2010 version, recorded at Punta Paloma by José María Sagrista. Indeed, as a result of unbridled creativity, perseverance, and extreme passion for music, Poti (bass and vocals), José Ángel (guitars), and Andrés (drums and percussion) decided to discard the original session and re-record the songs entirely in 2010.

This special release for the band is now available on major streaming platforms and in physical format, in editions on double compact disc and on triple black vinyl, as part of the ‘Trippy Series’ from Spinda Records and with a limited run of 300 units numbered by hand.

The re-release of »Coñac Oxigenado« offers an incomparable auditory experience for rock enthusiasts in general, thus representing a tangible tribute to the band’s enduring legacy in the history of Spanish rock; a necessary homage to a much-needed musical formation.

In addition to the inclusion of both recordings, this re-release of »Coñac Oxigenado« presents a series of significant differences. In the visual department, the original artwork by Julia Morell has been reinterpreted by The Braves Church. And musically… arrangements, song durations, mixes, and lyrics differ between the two versions, offering listeners a complete perspective of the musical vision of the band from Algeciras.

If in the final published version they had the collaboration on guitar of José María Sagrista (Triana, Círculo Vicioso) in »Eterna soledad«, in the initial version Marco Serrato (Orthodox) contributed vocals in »Occuli Omnium In Te Sperant Domine«. However, the main difference lies in the inclusion of »Todo es nada«, an unreleased track until just a few weeks ago, which served as the only preview of the re-release and was part of the 2009 recording but was left out of the final release in favor of »Ni perdón, ni olvido«. With over 7 minutes, it’s an extremely dark, arduous track with a raw sound like Viaje a 800 had rarely shown before, illustrated by the music video by Fernando J. Martínez.

To celebrate the re-release, the band from Algeciras will offer a series of exclusive concerts where they will perform »Coñac Oxigenado« in its entirety, along with some of the most notable tracks from their discography. Those who have seen them before, whether during their original run or at any of the three concerts they offered during their brief reunion in 2019, will know they are in top form.
