Doomed Confessionary: Poppy, Nate & Asa (Killiad)

Killiad is a stoner/doom metal band hailing from Asheville, North Carolina. A trio of amiable rockers dedicated to writing heavy songs brimming with ominous vitality.

In May 2025, Killiad released their ominous doom debut album to the world. The 6 song LP is crafted by a trio of amiable rockers whose roots run deep in Asheville playing in a variety of bands. Their mix of influences meld together in their self-titled debut, available now on all major streaming services.

Killiad are Asa on guitar, Nate on bas and vocals, and Poppy on drums and vocals.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We really like each other, we play heavy music, and are three strangers who met randomly and found an alchemy that creates the magick that is Killiad.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Probably making the time to practice and write, given how busy life can be.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Our album has reached farther and wider and received more accolades than any of us have previously experienced in other bands. The response has been super cool!

What was your biggest regret?
We had a fourth member, on guitar, and spent a year trying to integrate him, which ultimately failed. He was a really sweet guy who just didn’t have the time and dedication to fully immerse himself in the material.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Our album release show was pretty epic – we played with Crystal Spiders, who are also on many folks’ top lists for this year, and they’ve invited us to play with them again. Super stoked!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How much good music is still being made despite the genre being around for so many decades. It just seems infinite, the probability of excellent heavy music.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
The newest Conan album!

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“The spaces between the notes are where we open the windows for the spirits to enter.”

What are your guilty pleasures?
No guilt, no shame. Rock out until we’re dead!

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Asheville / North Carolina?
Asheville, North Carolina, USA, has had a chaotic and generative music scene as long as I’ve been here, almost twenty years. Surely longer than I’ve been here. The metal and punk scenes are strong and resilient and full of good people. Great dive bars supporting the scene.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ve got mainly hometown shows lined up for the next few months. If you want to see us in Europe or anywhere else, hit us up!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We call it “volume therapy” and plan to keep rocking the fuck out and making albums and playing shows, hopefully some tours in the near future.

How can people best support your band?
Come out to shows, and send us messages of love!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for your enthusiasm and for shining a light amidst all the current darkness.
