Woolf Mountain is a heavy rock band from the Ludwigshafen/Worms area, Germany. All five musicians have been active in various hardcore, metal, punk and alternative bands in the local scene (Iron Keys, Sweedish Surprise Act, Second Aid, The Incredible Mole Rats, Coming Down). The various musical backgrounds and influences can also be found in the Woolf Mountain sound.
With a heavy vintage fuzz-sound, Woolf Mountain is somewhere between stoner, proto-metal and heavy rock, with some doom parts. Accompanied by mostly melodically smoked vocals. Classic song structures, rolling riffs, with excursions in doom, psych and heavy blues inspired by bands such as Sabbath, Kadavar, Graveyard or The Sword.
Woolf Mountain’s line-up consists of Balu (vocals), Eric (guitar), Matze (guitar), Arno (bass) and Paul (drums).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Woolf Mountain is a heavy rock band in the style of Graveyard, Black Sabbath, Kadavar. We combine influences from 70s rock, doom and stoner.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
It was hard to find rehearsal times when all five members were available, so we came up with a simple solution: Wednesdays are rehearsal days.
What can you be most proud of so far?
The »Woolf Mountain« LP was recorded live at Rama Studio – no digital assistance, no overdubs, no second chances.
What was your biggest regret?
Using two Os in the band name “Woolf Mountain”, makes it nearly impossible to find it 😀
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Playing Café Central in Weinheim as support for our friends from Psychlona and playing at Le Local punk-rock bar in Strasbourg.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The return of 70s rock right now. We love the style and the music.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Black Sabbath – »Paranoid«, The Sword – »Winter Wolfs«, Kadavar – »Berlin«.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
I think it should refer to the people who received the advice, not the ones giving it.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Incense sticks.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Ludwigshafen / Worms?
We’re lucky to live in an area with a thriving scene of bands and clubs. People know each other, and it’s common for musicians to play in several different bands. It’s a friendly, supportive community of heavy music lovers – and well worth a visit.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Check our website to see, when we will be on stage: woolfmountain.chayns.site.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Regulary reversals, writing new songs, 10 gigs per year, next record.
How can people best support your band?
If you like what you hear, give us a follow on Instagram or Spotify. You can also support us by buying our record. For more information, visit our website.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Have fun with our music. We hope it becomes the soundtrack to your life, or at least to this summer. Turn it up and take it for a late-night drive with the windows down.
