Toronto based trio Black Absinthe has unveiled their next fierce single »Call Of The Void« taken from their upcoming album »On Earth Or In Hell«, set to be released on March 27th, 2024. Showcasing their distinctive blend of thrash and NWOBHM, »Call Of The Void« follows Black Absinthe’s debut offering and album title track, »On Earth Or In Hell«.

The band comments: “A thought, urging us to swerve into oncoming traffic or jump from the balcony ledge are contemplations of the mind found in reality. The French have a phrase for it, ‘L’appel du vide’. But where are these intrusive thoughts coming from? Is this instinct misread as temptation on our journey to survive? Or a defensive mechanism towards danger.

This song has been crafted from the insanity of our live sets and now, »Call Of The Void« can be heard with immense power and production that brings the listener towards, and back down a razor’s edge. We channeled Slayer, Testament, and the swirling descent of Anthrax’s »Madhouse« when diving into the musical bridge of demonic harmonies, thick lead solo, and chest pounding stops that are carried throughout the song. The lyrics decipher the mystery of a severed instinct, no logic can explain. This track is meant to be explored at a high volume.”

Best experienced at full volume, Black Absinthe unleash a dynamic onslaught across each track on »On Earth Or In Hell«. From the high octane rhythmic opener »Dead Queen«, and melodic power-fueled title track, to the moody »Jean Lanfray« and foreboding »Essentially Fucked«, Black Absinthe have produced a vicious yet enticing record. Filled with riff-led good time party anthems, the album also ventures into more serious topics including shocking revelation of learning the historical crimes of their country’s past.

Black Absinthe comments: “The largest, loudest expression of Black Absinthe’s upcoming album, »On Earth Or In Hell«, sets a more serious tone, casting the good time party anthems aside for our latest release.

Our blend of thrash and NWOBHM came together for this song. A distinct black and death metal twin vocal attack, of Jack Cerre (lead vocals and guitar) and Fernando Villalobos (drums and vocals) drive the aggressive melody. The lyrics (written by Fernando) came to the band in full, a sharp, and poignant reaction to the shocking revelations of our country’s past. The razor’s edge of the verses pound with double kick and snarling guitar tone. The soaring lead guitar (Jack) uplifts the listener from the onset, and slams them back down to earth following the ripping solo section. The rock solid rhythm of Kyle Scarlett (bass) carries the solo section with an aggressive tone, utilizing a stripped down approach, reflective of a true power trio sound found throughout the record.

This album is unique in its character because of our new line up, with a visionary team of producers and artists, all working in collaboration.”

Formed in the underground dungeons and dives of Toronto’s metal scene, Black Absinthe is a Canadian contemporary heavy metal band. Since 2011, Black Absinthe has performed, recorded, and reached new fans all over Canada. Presenting a mix of thrashing mosh pits and riff heavy anthems, their growing presence in the diverse heavy music scene, unifies classic metal grandeur, speed-demon rhythm sections, soaring solos, with modern technicality. Over the course of three EP’s and one LP, »Early Signs Of Denial« (2016), Black Absinthe has continued to grow and experiment on its NWOBHM influences while maintaining the intensity of the contemporary heavy metal genre.
