Doomed Confessionary: Derek Fisher (Gøren, Moth66)

Formed in 2022 as another creative outlet for 20 year music veteran and now solo artist Derek Fisher (Moth66) from Flint, Michigan, the infancy of Gøren has already begun to impress those who have heard early tracks.
Gøren’s debut album »Summon« has been released on September 22nd, 2023 via The Swamp Records.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Around 2019 I decided to start a solo rock project that was eventually named Moth66 and my first album »LXVI« was released in 2022 on The Swamp Records. I use a few different names depending on what style of music that I’m playing and in September of 2023 I released a new doom album under the name Gøren.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
The biggest challenge for me is always promotion. I’m such a small minow in a very large ocean of artists so it is very difficult for people to notice my music. It takes a lot of hard work and it gets exhausting at times.
What can you be most proud of last year?
I’m most proud of the new album »Summon« because it took over a year to complete for various reasons but I think it turned out to be a very solid debut and the response has been great.
What was your biggest regret?
My biggest regret is not releasing more music. I usually have more ideas in my head than I can put down but finding the time to work on them all can be difficult. And as I mentioned earlier, the promotion of new music can be exhausting so I usually take some time to decompress after a release because I begin to burn out and as a result I don’t put out music as frequently as I’d like to.
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
I didn’t go to many concerts last year but I always enjoy seeing Joe Buck Yourself. He’s a legend in the underground outlaw country and punk scenes and his shows are raw and always a lot of fun.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I’m not sure. There isn’t a lot that surprises me these days
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
In your imagination I haven’t played live in around 10 years and I don’t plan on playing any time soon. There is just too much work that goes into it that I don’t have the energy or desire to do so.
What are your plans for the next year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
I have been working on the second Moth66 album since before the release of the first album in 2022 so I’d love to finish that and get it out to the world. I’m also in the early stages of writing the second Gøren album and have been working on a few songs for my long neglected industrial metal project Monochrome Circuit. I haven’t released any new Monochrome Circuit since 2017 so I’d like to get something new out there. So if I had to make a goal I would say to release the new Moth66 album and new Monochrome Circuit. A new Gøren album would be great too.
What are your New Year’s Eve activities like?
I don’t usually do anything on New Year’s Eve. I have become old and boring
How can people best support your band?
The best way that people can show their support is to follow me on Bandcamp (moth66.bandcamp.com and goren.bandcamp.com) and another way that is extremely helpful is if people joined The Swamp Krewe. It’s a subscription service on Bandcamp hosted by The Swamp Records. You get access to all of the music from every band on The Swamp Records and some exclusive stuff too. It really helps the label and as a result really helps the artists. Plus, the listener gets a lot of great music. You can check it out at theswamprecords.bandcamp.com.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
I would just like to say thank you for the support and to Doomed Nation for always helping spread the word. Be sure to tell your friends because the best way to get the music out there is through you.
