The Parisian stoner rock quartet unveils the latest track from their upcoming album, »The Storyteller«, which will be released on October 17th on their own label, Kernel Panic Records. »She Said« stands out as a highlight of this sophomore LP, yet it’s also a somewhat special track. Following the classy, heavy blues-rock vibes of »The End« and »Last Man Standing« this track delivers a captivating, melodic explosion. A true rock gem, shining with its gold-standard production, mixed by Étienne Sarthou (Karras, Freitot, ex-AqME) and mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult Of Luna). Highly recommended for fans of Queens Of The Stone Age, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Foo Fighters, among others!
On this new single, CKP’s stoner rock fully embraces its 90s alternative rock influences, reminiscent of bands like Pixies or Tripping Daisy, along with a touch of grunge and even shoegaze. It’s impossible to remain unmoved by this deeply nostalgic guitar melody, or by the simple yet catchy chorus. One of the most recent tracks from the album’s songwriting process, it’s also one of the band’s favorites, according to singer/guitarist Loïc Wiels. And he’s not the only one taking the microphone on this track, as guitarist Yome Venice and bassist Karin Gousset also contribute vocals. This perfectly encapsulates the collaborative spirit that fueled »The Storyteller«.

The more “pop” and upbeat approach of »She Said« contrasts with the tragic nature of the story it tells, deliberately creating a dissonance for the listener. This provides fertile ground for reflection and serves as a vehicle for conveying a message, combining incisive and highly political lyrics with an effective, bright, and playful musical style. Loïc explains more about the subject matter of the song:
“»She Said« recounts a story heard thousands of times, and recently featured in the news again. It’s the story of a woman who, despite multiple warnings of threats and abuse, joins the ever-growing list of victims of domestic violence. The lyrics themselves are quite explicit on this subject. Interestingly, I’ve noticed that with each of our single releases, the news headlines seem to reinforce and highlight the message of the featured song. Perhaps because these are recurring themes, and that’s likely why they have permeated the writing of this album over the past 10 years.”
Loïc adds that these words reflect the frustration with the manufactured controversies that have dominated society over the past 20 years, the moral panics, and the fabricated accusations. These are always instigated by oppressors who portray themselves as victims, all in an attempt to further their own agendas, reinforce their sense of entitlement, and address their own insecurities, always at the expense of others. They are willing to do anything to protect themselves, even plunging the rest of the world into chaos.
»She Said« is available now on your favorite streaming platform, on the Computers Kill People Bandcamp page and on the band’s YouTube channel.
