With »Oh Hedonism«, Digital Carbs return in fall 2025 with their second album. Following their debut »Are We Taking It Slowly« (2022) and the EPs »Conform Deform« (2023) and »Floods« (2024), the band now presents their most versatile work to date.

The album merges surreal imagery, sharp social critique, and hypnotic song structures into a pull that oscillates between intimacy and loss of control. Is it daydreaming or an escape from reality when fish fly toward the sun and marmots bury you alive? Abysses on all sides – but at least with a view of glowing billboards.

The pre-release singles already offered a glimpse of what lies ahead: the sensational »Head In The Clouds« drifts between dream and dystopia, Win Some, Lose Some builds on a hypnotic foundation, while »Say It Like You Mean« It pushes forward with a disco beat and octaver bass. And it’s not only stylistically that the band experiments: for the first time, »Oh Hedonism« features trumpets, piano, and banjo. Yet everything blends into a cohesive whole that demonstrates what Digital Carbs stand for: intensity, a willingness to take risks, and songs that resist being pigeonholed.

Lyrically, »Oh Hedonism« mirrors our time: caught between palpable fragmentation, escalating crises, and the yearning for ecstasy, comfort, or sheer survival. The album title itself carries a double meaning: hedonism as the driving force of a selfish, fractured society – and at the same time as what keeps us going at all.

»Oh Hedonism« is raw, haunting, and above all: unmistakably Digital Carbs.

Digital Carbs began as the solo project of bassist and vocalist Johannes Rest. Been active in the Munich music scene for many years, he started working on a new project in 2018 to express his own voice. The idea of forming a band and playing concerts as soon as possible was put on hold by the pandemic. Consequently, he recorded the debut album single-handedly. From playing all the instruments, the mixing process, and two music videos, Johannes handled everything himself. For the artwork, he used his own acrylic paintings, a new passion he discovered during the Corona lockdowns. The debut album »Are We Taking It Slowly« was released on April 22, 2022.

From the solo beginnings of bassist and singer Johannes Rest, Digital Carbs has evolved into a hidden gem of the Munich alt-rock scene. Their 2022 debut album »Are We Taking It Slowly« recently reached the milestone of over 200.000 streams on Spotify. It didn’t take long before the Munich indie label Schaufel & Besen Records took notice and signed the band. Together, they released the EP »Conform Deform« on December 14, 2023, followed by the EP »Floods« a year after. The latter was celebrated with the band’s first major fall tour through Germany and Austria. With one album and two EPs in their repertoire, the quartet didn’t rest in 2025 either, channeling all their energy into a new full-length album, which will be released this October. It’s called »Oh Hedonism«, and is shaped by the escalating conditions in the world and an increasingly divided society.

Digital Carbs are Johannes Rest (vocals, bass), Konrad Diesch (drums), Daniel Bautista (guitar), and Markus “Willy” Willmann (guitar).
