Doomed Confessionary: Will Haines (Droid)

Droid is a four-piece stoner/doom metal band from the inner depths of Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 2017, Droid consists of Richard Iskov (guitar, vocals), Tim Wooltorton (guitar), Will Haines (bass, vocals) and Jeremy Kaye Simmons (drums).
Having been a mainstay of the local scene pre-covid, they’re making their long-awaited return in 2025 with their first new music in more than 5 years.
Droid have just released their new four-track EP »Eroded Forms« on July 25th, 2025. The vinyl edition is a split with Swedish grunge/stoner/alternative rockers I Am Low, co-released by Majestic Mountain Records and Copper Feast Records.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Droid is a doom band from Melbourne Australia, we have just released a brand new EP with our best songs yet.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
We have had 2 drummers leave in the past, both times we thought we were finished but then a perfect replacement came our way.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We are always most proud of our newest release and right now that’s »Eroded Forms«.
What was your biggest regret?
Not putting my life savings on the Lions to win the flag in January.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The best tour was our Hyperreality tour in 2020, particularly Frankies in Sydney and Tasmania.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How nice 99% of people are.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’m currently listening to the new Goat Shaman record, as well as lots of old Watain.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Make the point you intend to with the section of the song, then move on. Better to leave them wanting more than to flog a dead horse.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Beer and cigarettes.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Melbourne?
It’s extremely healthy, we are spoiled for good bands here in Melbourne, Goat Shaman as I mentioned earlier, Ghostsmoker, Holy Serpent and the list goes on.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are in the midst of planning an EP launch show here in Melbourne, details to come soon on our socials. We would love to play in Europe one day, that’s the dream.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are going to write more music as soon as possible, then we would love to get to some cities we have never been to.
How can people best support your band?
Buying anything that takes your fancy from our Bandcamp page, or head to Copper Feast Records and buy our new vinyl.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you, we do this for our own satisfaction but it’s really encouraging and humbling when someone tells you they love a song you created.
