Doomed Confessionary: Wizard of Snus, Scroll Shaman & Serj Tepes (Red Fountain)

Red Fountain is a psychedelic stoner/doom metal power trio from Alicante, Spain. Founded in 2023, the band consists of Wizard of Snus (WoS) on bass, his brother Scroll Shaman (SS) on drums, and Serj Tepes (ST) on guitar and vocals.

Red Fountain’s first studio album »Chains Of Sin«, released in April 2026, is a refined version of their previous release »Mandragora – Live Session« in higher fidelity, recorded in studio between October 2025 and March 2026. Recorded and mastered by Alex at Harrisound Studios. Album art by Nosferatu Doom.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
WoS: Red Fountain is just three dudes making noise with the things they have (or steal) and preaching the gospel of doom.

SS: Yeah, we also know each other since we were kids and have been playing together on and off for a long time. It’s funny because when we decided to start Red Fountain, the three of us were guitarists, so both my brother and I had to learn to play the bass/drums during the process.

ST: Yes! Scroll Shaman has always been a great friend with whom I learned to play guitar when we were 15. His brother later joined this project and fit terribly well.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
WoS: Everything has gone quite smoothly. I think the hardest challenge has been screen printing t-shirts with white ink.

SS: I agree. For me, learning to play the drums better is also quite a challenge.

ST: In these two years, no one had ever tried to play stoner, we had zero gear and didn’t know how to record a band with the sound we like. It has been after spending hours in the studio and even more hours in our rehearsal room that we realized that we can shape our sound the way we like, and that the next releases are going to sound even better than we imagined.

What can you be most proud of so far?
WoS: I think, playing on so many gigs, making practically all of our merch by ourselves and defending our own style with this rate of success.

Yeah, we’re also pretty proud of our last studio release »Chains Of Sin«.

SS: Yeah, we definitely didn’t expect to play so many gigs and have such a nice reception. Also, it’s cool to think that there are (a few) people across the globe that actually like listening to the music that we create.

What was your biggest regret?
WoS: I don’t think I regret anything about this project. Maybe not rehearsing more often…

ST: Yes. I don’t regret anything, this is just a hobby to have fun, learn, and take part in a movement that we love.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
WoS: Definitely 27th September 2025 at La Granja, in our hometown Alcoi. Playing for an active audience, with many of our friends, is always good.

ST: It definitely was an incredible gig. We had never found this balance between being drunk and playing right. We really had fun playing and I think the crowd was very in tune, with a lot of our friends in there.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
ST: Thanks to fitting in this niche, we ended up in the backstage with our friends Dopemancer the day they played with Mephistofeles in Barcelona. We literally ended up getting high and drunk with our favourite band. It was an unforgettable gig and night.

WoS: Also the help from our friend Nick Horrigan, opening up the US market for us.

SS: Yeah, we also had an encounter with a vampire that heavily resembled Ozzy in our last Halloween concert. It was in the middle of nowhere, with the electricity coming from a generator, it was a cool night.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
WoS: I’ve been listening a lot to »Premiers Symptomes« by Air (found on a free CD’s pile in Germany! they have a cool giveaway culture), and old flamenco records.

SS: In my case, I have been listening to some of the new wave of nu-metal, such as Bleed and Burnside.

ST: I lately only listen to bands of the genre, or corny indie like Castlebeat, No Vacation or Crumb to give my head a break.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
WoS: To throw yourself into the fire. Practice until you’re comfortable on stage and then just express yourself. And if someone tells you not to buy a fretless bass, call them a normie.

SS: Similar for me. You will never be ready, so just start doing things and learn as you go. This also applies to all the other aspects of life in general.

What are your guilty pleasures?
ST: Definitely drinking too much beer while rehearsing.

WoS: Eatin boogers.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Alicante?
WoS: There’s a lot of good people that are building a solid stoner scene in our area (Alicante). Elda’s Requiem are putting some quality stuff out there specially if you take into consideration that they’re like 15 years old.

ST: We’d also like to mention Double Horse. We played our first gig with them. They’re also cooking something. Along with Dopemancer, and their new raw-as-hell project called Malviaje.

SS: Yeah, it’s surprising to have so many great bands in our area.

Where can we see you live soon (concerts/tours)?
Nearest date is probably May 9th near Valencia (we’ll keep you updated). Also, hopefully we’ll do some gigs with Double Horse and Dopemancer. Probably in some weird place plugged into a generator.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’re actually working a lot on our recording techniques, applying all the things we’ve learned at the studio. Just keep recording and performing and hopefully we’ll be on pressed vinyl soon.

How can people best support your band?
Listen to our music, interact with us, and if you like our stuff and have money, you can buy merch or digital tracks.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
WoS: Support free software and self-fabrication and don’t fall for propaganda. Almost everything you see thru the screen is curated by specialists to manipulate you. And listen to Black Sabbath…

SS: Yeah, try to understand the reality that you are living and learn to detect the bullshit. What do you prefer, to live a fake but comfortable life or to be free?

ST: Try to listen to music that transmits other realities and bizarre worlds, drop out of this world full of polarizing politics. Sometimes singing about Satanic rites, sacrifices or killings is healthier than reading this sick world’s news.
