Doomed Confessionary: Eric Euler (The Isosceles Project)

The Isosceles Project is an instrumental psychedelic stoner prog trio from Ontario, Canada.
The band will release their third full-length album entitled »Bear The Torch« October 17th, 2025. The 42-minute heavy instrumental psychedelic stoner prog record covers a spectrum of sounds melding aggressive thrashy riffs, melodic synthy post-rock passages, and dynamic sonic storytelling.
The Isosceles Project formed in 2007, releasing their debut full-length album »Oblivion’s Candle« in 2009 and sophomore release »Bridges« in 2012. The band was known for their energetic live shows and long winding instrumental musical compositions. They successfully completed three tours of Canada before going on hiatus following the completion of a five-week American tour in 2012.
The Isosceles Project made their return to the stage in spring 2025 with a new lineup featuring Eric Euler (guitar), Matt Medvesky (bass) and Dan Duff (drums).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
The Isosceles Project is a heavy instrumental psychedelic stoner prog band based in Hamilton, Ontario. The band was originally very active in Toronto between 2007-2012, releasing a few full-lengths, touring almost every summer, and even appearing on a Canadian reality TV show called Disband. The new lineup has been gigging since spring 2025.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
The biggest challenge was allowing myself permission to move on with new players. Scott Tessier (original bass player) and Brandon Smith (long standing drummer) are dear homies, and still are, but it took a lot for me to let go. I moved away and completed my MFA in Louisian between 2012-2015, however I was still busy writing tons of music by myself. During the pandemic I learned how to use Reaper and started producing music myself with hopes of starting it up again with Scott and Brandon once I moved back to Ontario. We couldn’t find a way to make it work – which was fine – but it slowly nudged me towards finding new people to work with. I’m really grateful for meeting Dan Duff (drums) and Matt Medvesky (bass). We’ve been playing together as a three piece for about a year now.
What can you be most proud of so far?
I’m really proud of this new record »Bear The Torch«. I did it all myself, although I didn’t intend for it to be a solo record. It just had to be given the circumstances. The title reflects the process of lighting your own path – bearing your own torch. It takes a lot of work to get a band going, especially as I’m turning 40 this year, but fuck it. 40 is the new 20!
What was your biggest regret?
Not giving myself permission sooner to move on from the last iteration of the band. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I end up hurting a bit of my own by not doing what’s right for me. I guess this new record is a testament to my transformation in some capacity. Playing in a band is how I make friends. It’s an important social thing for me.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Our month-long Canadian west coast tour in July 2010 was pretty amazing. It was so exciting seeing so much of Canada for the first time and meeting fans from far away. I have very vivid memories from that quest: Horrifyingly driving through the Rockies, meeting Intronaut (who I love) and getting guestlisted for their Montreal show with Cynic, and just making a ton of lifelong friends across the country. Core memories. It’s the only tour we came back with a bit of money with aswell, that we immediately put towards expenses for our van lol. That van died shortly after I moved to the States.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I remember being pretty stoked on hearing Oranssi Pazuzu for the first time. I loved how weird, psychedelic, and uncomfortably heavy it was. A beautiful dissonance.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Black Sabbath – Master Of Reality
Black Sabbath – IV
Black Sabbath – Sabotage
Temple Fang – Lifted From The Wind
Guiltless – Teeth To The Sky
Inter Arma – New Heaven
Public Health – Minamata (also from Hamilton)
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t fill the space. Create the space.
What are your guilty pleasures?
I buy too many records and guitar pedals (or not enough lol).
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Ontario?
Hamilton, Ontario has it going on. There are a ton of sweet venues and LOTS of bands. I’m grateful for ending up in this community.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’ll be promoting our new album »Bear The Torch« around Southern Ontario fall 2025 with plans to to hit Quebec along with the east coast of Canada in spring 2026. Keep an eye on our social media accounts for details.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Have fun, play shows, do some tours nationally (and maybe internationally), continue writing meaningful transformative music, and make more cool friends.
How can people best support your band?
Pick up an album, t-shirt, some art (I’m also a visual artist), and come to a show!
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Keep bearing your own torch!
