»In Limbo Pt. 1« is the debut album from the Greek progressive/post-metal band The Lotus Matter. Originally formed in 2017 under a different name and lineup, the 5-piece went through several changes over the following years. As the band transitioned from their early progressive death metal sound, their music evolved into a more experimental and atmospheric style, blending a diverse array of influences and genres.

Influenced by ‘90s post-metal/indie, they couple art-rock density with classic ‘70s “grandeur”! »In Limbo Pt. 1« is complex yet crispy, with distinct, interlocking melodies over a cinematic ambience.

The album was recorded at both Backstage and Brain Drain Studios, mixed by John Vulgaris at Electric Highway Studios and mastered by Theodoros Bournas at Arkadikon Studio. In addition to the core members of the band, The Lotus Matter employ guest vocalists, strings and bagpipes, elevating »In Limbo Pt. 1« to a non-stop artistic feat!

»In Limbo Pt. 1« is out on June 13, on limited edition vinyl (classic black and bone color vinyl), and digipack CD, via Sound Effect Records.

The Lotus Matter states: “The band was originally created in 2017 under a different name and lineup. Years later, after multiple lineup changes and a shift from a more traditional progressive death metal sound we decided it was time for a change. So in the autumn of 2021, as all the pieces were finally coming together and we had a stable lineup we created The Lotus Matter.

For us, it was more than just a name change, it was a fresh start, it was a new direction, it was finally all members working together and putting their influences into the final product. The sound of the band was moving towards a more experimental and atmospheric sound incorporating more influences and music genres than before.

If we had to describe our influences, we’d say we’re inspired by the storytelling of Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, the dynamic range of Opeth, the atmosphere of bands like The Ocean Collective and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, the raw emotion of Alice In Chains, the experimentation of Radiohead, and Greek folk music.

During the summer of 2022, we began recording our first LP »In Limbo Pt. 1«, which releases on June 13th via Sound Effect Records. Vinyl and CD orders are now available on our Bandcamp and the Sound Effect Records webstore.”
