About »You Are A Blight On Our Existence«: “Once that title came to me, I knew that this song would have a very broad but focused meaning. As »Transmutation« was a personal expression of anguish, despondence, and bitter self-dialogue aimed at myself and everyone around me; this song is rooted in my hatred of every system of oppression, conformity, greed, and their numerous perpetrators within our governments, in our politics, and in our societies.
It’s about how twisted and hostile this world that humans have made for themselves has become, especially for the youth of my generation and the one after us. A world where almost no one can be trusted but yourself. A world where everyone’s always after something and someone. A world where our blood and suffering is their currency.
This song is about having the will to do something different… the refusal to fall in line with the rest. This song is for the social pariahs, the artists, the freaks, the challengers of authority, the sons and daughters of disorder and chaos. This is a song against your antagonizers… every single one of them.”
Encephalum is a one-man blackened death-doom metal project from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I created this project in 2023 under the pseudonym “S.” with the intention to create a combination of sounds that are a rarity to the current metal scene in Calgary. Something characteristic of the heaviness of depression, anger, and misanthropy all under one name.
The sound of Encephalum can be likened to bands such as Leviathan, Mortiferum, and Lord Mantis, as these remain primary influences for the project’s raw, dark and uncompromising sound.
Encephalum has released its first EP »Transmutation« on May 16, 2025 and standalone single »You Are A Blight On Our Existence« on November 27, 2025, available now on the majority of streaming platforms, excluding Spotify.
