Angolan metal veteran Manuel Campos (Kishi, Porta Magna) launches Campos Ritual with 14-year-old son; debuts with powerful Mastodon cover!

Luanda, Angola – Manuel Campos, also known as Mankav, a versatile cornerstone of the Angolan rock movement, officially announces his latest project: Campos Ritual. This venture represents a powerful “passing of the torch,” as the veteran vocalist joins forces with his 14-year-old son, Guilherme Campos, to lead a new charge for the African underground.
The project debuts with an explosive cover of Mastodon’s »Blood And Thunder«, recorded at Estúdio Dois in Luanda. The release has already garnered international acclaim, being featured on the world-renowned channel 666MrDoom, where curator George Kellamis described it as “one of the best covers of this classic track.”
A Life Dedicated to the Scene
Manuel Campos is a multifaceted force in Angolan alternative culture. As the vocalist for the influential bands Kishi and Porta Magna, he has defined the sound of modern Angolan metal. Beyond the stage, he is a respected event promoter, DJ, and the voice behind the long-running radio program Rockstation on Afriradio 106.1 FM. Through Campos Ritual, he transitions from a solo icon to a mentor, performing alongside Guilherme to ensure the genre’s survival in the region.
Human Soul vs. Digital Trends
In an era where music is increasingly influenced by algorithms, Manuel sees this project as a necessary statement.
“In a world increasingly dominated by digital screens and Artificial Intelligence, I want this project to inspire other children to pick up a real instrument and create music,” says Manuel. “Guilherme’s dedication shows that there is no substitute for the raw energy and human soul of a guitar in your hands. We want to prove that the future of music still belongs to the next generation of creators who aren’t afraid to get their hands loud.”

The New Generation
At just 14 years old, Guilherme Campos takes on the role of lead guitarist with professional precision. Despite this being his first studio experience, his performance was flawless and powerful, capturing the complex, high-energy spirit of Mastodon.
