Doomed Confessionary: Sol. E. Williams (Cathode U.L.T)

Cathode U.L.T is a sludge metal trio hailing from Louisville, Kentucky. Formed in August 2023, Cathode U.L.T wasted zero time making noise. Their debut EP »Coal Horse« (February 2024) introduced a harsh, rust-belt sonic identity. By Halloween of the same year, the band followed up with »Orphan Source«, which quickly won favor among early supporters and helped solidify the group within the Midwest underground.
Now barely two years into their existence, the band returns with their third release and most expansive effort to date. »Savagery And Salvation« (January 2026) pushes their songwriting further into dense atmosphere and crushing momentum, balancing raw aggression with bleak melody and dynamic tension. Steeped in the grime and weight of true sludge while pulling influence from doom, punk and thrash, the band continues to carve out their sound for fans of EyeHateGod, Crowbar and High On Fire.
With no management, no label, and a relentless Midwestern work ethic, Cathode U.L.T keeps their hands dirty and their output heavy. »Savagery And Salvation« marks a defining moment for a band that operates on grit and forward motion.
Cathode U.L.T consists of Sol. E. Williams (guitar, vocals), Billy Price (bass) and Stephen Eifler (drums).
Can you please say a few words about your band?
This band is decided to writing the nastiest riffs we can muster up. That what we do, that’s all we do.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
As of the moment. Transportation lol. Everything else comes pretty easy to us. We need a better whip to tour around in.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our passion and dedication. We keep writing material almost every time we hit the practice. Because we’re all about this music.
What was your biggest regret?
Not investing in better transportation, lol.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The last run we did was pretty awesome. We got a pretty good leg up on that. And met a ton of cool people. Looking forward to more runs like that.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How much people have embraced these records. We started this as just a jam session. And we’re 3 going into 4 EPs later.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Do listen to bullshit advice. Keep doing what works. Move on from what doesn’t.
What are your guilty pleasures?
I don’t feel guilty about anything. My condolences is clean. But I do listen to a lot of old-school outlaw country. But absolutely none of this modern “Outlaw” whatever this crap is.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Louisville / Kentucky?
It is very diverse. And that’s a good thing, and I hope it stays that way.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’re about to hit the studio again here real soon. For our 4th EP. Coming early 2027. Touring, rocking out.
