Doomed Confessionary: Jacopo Marinelli (Eurynome)

Eurynome is an atmospheric funeral doom band based in Milan, Italy.
Their first full-length album »Obsequies« was released in November 2020 followed by singles trilogy: »Funerals Unto Ruin« (2022), »Decadence In Minor« (2023) and »Death Of Poseidon« (2023).
Eurynome is Nicole Delacroix (main songwriting, lead/distorted bass, clean vocals, orchestrations, piano, side lyrics) and Jacopo Marinelli (growl, main lyrics, side songwriting).
Can you say a few words about your band?
We’re a duo from Italy performing also male (growl) and female (clean) vocals. Our project started in 2018 and it’s focused on a funeral doom style with atmospheric elements, and the use of electric bass instead of guitars. We put a lot of effort into getting a particular, distinguishable sound in the scene. We also adopted a stratagem to make our sound even more obscure: downtuning all our instruments and lines at 436 Hz (industry standard is 440 Hz). Thanks to this we can deliver less brilliant frequencies without going out of tune. That works very well for this genre!
We are inspired by decadent philosophies that nostalgically remember mankind’s old relationships with nature and pagan divinities, a bond that was broken due to our pride and our greed when we began to destroy the environment. In our lyrics we talk about the apocalypse, funerals and cemeteries, a collapsed nature and divinities that abandon us.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
Well probably the writing of the 2nd album and developing an evolution of the sound from the first one. We also released two singles this year and it’s hard to get us known in a scene packed with other bands.
What can you be most proud of last year?
We achieved all the objectives we set ourselves for the songwriting and releases. But most importantly our music has reached a lot of new fans and amazing guys that supported us.
What was your biggest regret?
Not being able to organize the split with a one-man band before he closed his project. He’s a dear friend of ours and released an amazing funeral doom/death album under the name Scent Of Darkness. Check it out!
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
Since we are a studio project we don’t perform live. Would be pretty challenging due to the complexity of the songwriting and instrument lines. But in the future we maybe could think about it and plan something on stage.
However, we’d like to mention the Doom Heart fest in Milan as an audience. The last edition hosted big names like Clouds, Pantheist (who we respect a lot and with whom we took a souvenir photo exchanging CDs), Remina and Somnent (an emerging U.S. band with whom we support each other).

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
That’s a good question! We’re not sure if we can talk more about the positive or negative fronts. We are very happy that the metal scene has grown a lot in recent years. There are some bands that have left their mark for us and that we are also inspired by, like Bell Witch. On the other hand, we are seeing great difficulty among bands and labels in supporting the cause. Proposing something original and interesting costs a lot of time and money, and there are hundreds of releases every month. Convincing the public and critics to focus on you is increasingly a mirage.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
As mentioned above we don’t perform live, even in 2024 the chances are really really low to manage something on stage. 2025 or 2026 could be a good moment to try it out.
What are your plans for this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
We will release the music video for the latest single soon and then at the end of spring we will release the full album. We would like to reach more listeners by doing more interviews and getting more reviews. Unfortunately it’s very hard due to the saturated underground and metal scene in general, where emerging and getting noticed becomes more and more difficult year after year. Unless you make some really crazy stuff and/or put a lot of money on scenography and costumes (or promotion), but we really want to put our resources and time on music quality and originality.
How can people best support your band?
Sharing our links and music on the internet, trying to make other metal fans to know us. We also made some merch on Bandcamp that always helps when purchased. Among that there’s a beautiful wooden coffin boxset made by us in a limited edition.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Always be yourself and listen to good metal, support artists and pursue art because it’s a powerful vehicle of messages and companion of life.
