Formed in Paris, France in 2002, Inborn Suffering quickly established themselves as one of their country’s premier exponents of majestic, melodic doom death. They released two exceptional albums in the form of »Wordless Hope« (2006) and »Regression To Nothingness« (2010), played numerous high profile shows alongside the likes of Swallow The Sun, Saturnus and Mourning Beloveth…and then slowly slipped away into years of silence.

In 2024, the band have returned, signing a new deal with the esteemed Ardua Music and released the album of their career in the incredible »Pale Grey Monochrome«. Released on February 7th, 2025, »Pale Grey Monochrome« features all the trademarks of Inborn Suffering’s music – the crushing weight and towering majesty, the piercing emotion and beautiful guitar melodies, the aching vocal lines and sombre gravitas – but Inborn Suffering have returned not to match their past endeavours, but to surpass them.

Inborn Suffering consists of Laurent Chaulet (vocals, guitar), Stéphane Peudupin (guitar), Emmanuel Ribeiro (bass), Stéphane Peudupin (synth) and Thomas Rugolino (drums).

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Hello, we are a doom death band from Paris.

It was created in 2002 and after a 12 years hiatus we are back with a new album called »Pale Grey Monochrome«.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
This album I think was the biggest challenge for many reasons. Doing an album after a long hiatus can be difficult. We all live in different places now and it’s more challenging to write new music together.

This is why Laurent was the main composer of the album because Stéphane was still busy with his other band Fractal Gates.

What can you be most proud of so far?
I think the only thing we are really proud is being able to write some music again. We never thought it will be possible with Inborn Suffering.

What was your biggest regret?
I think stopping the band twelve years ago was regrettable because we left it really bad. We were all full of anger and animosity.but at this time it was the only solution.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We have played a lot of concerts with amazing bands and really different places but I think our greek concert was one of our best concerts. We played a great show and we met the amazing guys from shattered hope. The Madrid concert with autumnal was cool too. Great places with great people.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Recently, the last Blood Incantation album. Really surprised by this 70’s prog space influence.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I am currently listening to the last Lying Figures album, the last Sólstafir, the last EP from Shattered Hope, Collapse Of Light and some old Death (the band) albums too.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
I am searching but I can’t remember, this hiatus doesn’t help to much. Sorry for that 🙂

What are your guilty pleasures?
Cheese, a lot of cheese. Always.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Paris?
Our music scene have a lot of great bands. Hangman’s Chair, Mourning Dawn, Seth, Fractal Gates, Ataraxie to name a few.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have no plans at the moment doing live concerts. As I said we are all scattered across the country.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
When we began writing again some music with Inborn Suffering, we wanted only to do just one song. As you can see, a new album arrived. We don’t know what is coming in a near future.

How can people best support your band?
Of course buying our stuff is cool but listening to our music is the key. If we can bring emotions to some people that’s all we need.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for this interview. I hope you like the new album. This is a really personal opus. Much more than the others.
