Doomed Confessionary: Giorgio Trombino (Bottomless)

Hailing from Italy, Bottomless was formed in 2016 by members of Messa, Assumption, Becerus, Shrieking Demons, Morbo, and many more. Five years later, in 2021 and preceded by a trio of three of digital singles, Bottomless released their self-titled debut album: a clear affirmation of the power-trio’s commitment to traditional doom metal yet with a slightly ‘70s edge, bluesy and hard rocking. Bottomless released their sophomore full-length album »The Banishing« on August 25th, 2023 via Dying Victims Productions.
Bottomless currently consists of Giorgio Trombino (guitar, vocals), David Lucido (drums) and Laura Nardelli (bass).
Can you say a few words about your band?
Bottomless was formed by me (Giorgio, guitar and vocals) and David (drums) in 2016. Sara joined us on bass shortly after. We have one s/t album out on Spikerot Record, while our latest album »The Banishing« was released in August 2023 via Dying Victims Productions. A couple of months ago Sara left to fully focus on Messa and Laura Nardelli (Ponte del Diavolo) stepped in on bass. With this line-up we are getting ready to record and play live as much as we can next year.
What was the biggest challenge for the band this year?
We’ve had our first line-up change ever, but everything turned out to be really smooth and totally amicable and I think that the three of us got along very well since practice n.1. Aside from that, we haven’t faced any big challenge really.
What can you be most proud of this year?
The biggest pride lies in the release of our last LP as it’s a clear statement of how we envision this band and its style. It sounds and feels just the way we wanted and Dying Victims Productions has done a really good job with its release and promotion.
What was your biggest regret?
Of course we’d love to do a few more gigs here and there but we’re working on that. It isn’t as easy as it seems because we’re all in different bands and projects.
What was the best concert/tour this year and why?
The second show we’ve done this year with our new bass player was at the Freakout Club in Bologna (Italy) on a Saturday night. We’ve shared the stage with Tenebra for that one and two more gigs and, you know, we just love hanging out with them. The atmosphere was great and we enjoyed it all the way through. I was too drunk at the gig before that one, shame on me and on early load-in timetables! But then again, this is HEAVY DOOM METAL, so a little weed, alcohol and sorrow should always be welcome…
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The latest releases by Sumerlands, Early Moods and, although it isn’t a surprise AT ALL, Cirith Ungol and Candlemass were all great. Also, make sure you check out some talented label mates of ours such as Armagh, Ritvs, Flight, High Warden and Critical Defiance.
Where can we see you live next year (concerts/tours)?
We are piling up a few gigs in Italy and abroad all through the first half of 2024 and we’ve also been confirmed at a couple of cool fests in Germany, i.e. Skull Crusher and Over the Edge, both happening in the month of May.
What are your plans for the next year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
We have a bunch of new tunes in the pipeline and we’re working on a split release that we’ll soon announce and, also, on our next full-length album.
Do you already know what are you doing on New Year’s Eve?
Hopefully get drunk, crank up some Hels (SWE) or Brats and just try to forget the horrors of this wretched planet for a few, blissful hours…
How can people best support your band?
Check out our merch table at the gigs or head out to our Bandcamp, and please forget about Spotify. That crap is nothing but an utter, disgusting shame.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks to you Bojan for this cool interview and to anybody who came across it and stopped by. Let’s burn at the stake!
