Doomed Confessionary: Guyome (The Bottle Doom Lazy Band)
Poitiers, France based doom metal band The Bottle Doom Lazy Band has released their third and final album »Clans Of The Alphane Moon« on November 1st, 2024 via Sleeping Church Records.
Drawing inspiration from 1960s and 70s sci-fi culture, the band has crafted a mesmerizing sonic journey through space and time. With recurring riffs and unsettling leitmotifs connecting each track, »Clans Of The Alphane Moon« is a testament to the band’s unique blend of heavy, psychedelic doom.
The Bottle Doom Lazy Band are/were Guyome (drums), Opyat (guitar), BottleBen (vocals), Hemreich (bass) and Pierre (guitar).
Can you say a few words about your band?
Hi Bojan & readers, thanx for your interest in TBDLB. Well we started in summer 2005, BottleBen & Opyat started to talk about doing a band influenced by the masters of the genre, Black Sabbath, Pentagram, St. Vitus, Cathedral & so on. We started practicing in a barn, that was all about having fun all together in one room, jamming & recording all together in the same room, it always been that way.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
It was probably the first recording »The Beast Must Die«, as we were quite young & new to playing that genre, all of us were playing in more extreme bands which was faster, meaning death metal & grindcore, so playing slow was quite a challenge. But it was not all about playing slow, doom music doesn’t mean play very slow, that’s of course heavy music but that’s all about rock’n’roll & being groovy. So the challenge, & I guess that was all the fact, we had to play songs from the start to the end straight, having the ability to make something happen & not just play slow without feelings. We always tried to bring that Bottle Doom athmosphere during practice & even more on stage, to share with the crowd, but the most important was to having fun all together & make that special feeling happen.
What can you be most proud of so far?
About recording I think we all agreed »Blood For The Bloodking« is our best effort, as I wrote down on the previous answer, everything was about athmosphere & feelings; & this album is all about how Bottle Doom is/was. We did recorded all instruments live at our practice room, Bottle Ben was doing signs by hands to show some changes because vocals were done later & as we were always jamming, changing riffs and tempo was all about feelings, so there was no fixed point. We are also very proud to have shared stages with many awesome bands such as Hirax, Solstice, Place Of Skulls, Rising Dust, Electric Wizard, Lord Vicar, Hooded Menace, Serpents Saints, Esoteric, Karma To Burn & many more.
What was your biggest regret?
I’m personally would like to tour more & planning big tour all around Europe & the World, but the other members where not really into that, we never could play more than 3 shows in a row & that’s a petty because we all had fun together, enjoying having party, drinking beers & playing rock’n’roll. But the word “Lazy” included in our name wasn’t choose blindly haha.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We did play a Triumvirat tour with our friends from Children Of Doom & Calliophis in 2010, we did played 3 shows in Germany during a weekend, then 3 other in France & Belgium on a different weekend. We were quite close to each other with Children Of Doom, they were playing a really cool doom’n’roll in the way of St. Vitus & Pentagram, we were both on Emanes Metal Records & did a 7″ EP together to celebrate our long friendship. Lots of beer & wine were drunk during our shows & party.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
With Bottle Doom we had the pleasure to share the stage with great bands, playing and having fun with Hirax was great, Katon is such a nice and fun dude. We did also played with Solstice in Switzerland, we had a really great time with Rich (former Sore Throat) telling us stories from back in the days with Napalm Death. With my grind band i have more stories as we play way more shows everywhere, we recently toured the US west coast & we did an extra show in San Luis Obispo (CA), Matt Harvey from Exhumed was there, we had a really nice chat together, he ended taking the mic & singing a song with us, quite amazing & unbelievable moment.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I’m the most extreme music oriented guy in the band, but my music taste is pretty wide. I’m really into goregrind & there is a young generation in US who bring the old vibes, so right now I’m really into Necropsy Odor, Mephitic Corpse, Gestation, the blasting side of Sulfuric Cautery, Morgue Breath which is more grindcore oriented. Sequestrum for the European vibe in a very old school way, Bisturi for being one of the sickest band around, Rageous Intent, Disturbance Project, Convulsions. I also listen a lot of old death metal bands such as Therion, Demilich, Cancer, Grave, etc… As well as hard rock & soft rock, Van Halen, Eagles, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, etc…
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
It’s been more than 30 years since I play music & i still don’t feel like I’m a musician, I’m still that young teenager playing instruments, that’s what I am. Now I’m sharing stages with very young people & I’m the one to give advice to them, well they ask for that & I wish more musicians will do that back in the days. Right now I can’t remember which advice I had, but the very first one I would like to have is wearing earplugs to protect your ears, because we play very loud music & the damage can make you stop playing or even listening music, ears can’t be replaced so be careful.
What are your guilty pleasures?
I could listen to Eagles, Supertramp & Last Days Of Humanity all day long haha. As well as mixing bands in my studio while playing with an SSL channelstrip haha.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Poitiers / Vienne?
There is plenty of bands in our area, the extreme scene doesn’t really exist anymore, there is the good old friends from Manzer, Trepanator & Rotten. There is some punk & rock’n’roll bands, Un Dolor are still around & they still kick ass, besides this it’s lack of bands with guts.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Well we did our last show with Presumption 2 years ago during a private event in our practice room, it was our last show ever, so nothing plan but working with our other bands.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We disbanded 2 years ago, so nothing plan as I mentionned, the new album is our last effort, we wish we could have redo it but I guess everyone of us wanted to end that chapter. Now everyone are busy with other projects, Mantras, Abduscius, Trepanator, Rotten, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Embryopathia, Corporal Abuse, The Cripple Room studio & more.
How can people best support your band?
People can write us, order t-shirts & albums, since we’ll not play any shows ever, that’s the only way. About our other bands, we are active playing shows here and there, so feel free to follow us & come to the shows.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Our last album »Clans Of The Alphane Moon« is out now on Sleeping Church Records, the amazing artwork was done by Tetard (Children Of Doom/Massive Obliteration/Bohu), inlay was done by our ex-guitarist Tos & everything was recorded, mixed & mastered at The Cripple Room studio. The album is around 70 minutes long, even his mistakes, as usual that’s a big jam session, the songs are great & we enjoyed playing them. So check our pages to listen it, then order your copy from us, Sleeping Church Records or Cataleptic Remaons Prod. Thanx to everyone for all the support, cheers.
