Doomed Confessionary: Hampus Henningsson (Hexjakt)

Emerging from the fog-drenched landscapes of Westmanland, Sweden, Hexjakt is a heavy, atmospheric doom metal band that weaves together crushing riffs, haunting atmospheres, and deeply introspective lyrics.
Formed in 2024, the band draws inspiration from the raw emotional power of classic doom pioneers, while forging their own path with a sound that is both modern and steeped in timeless traditions. Their sonic landscape is defined by slow, monolithic tempos, massive guitar tones, and vocals haunted by inner demons.
The band has just released their self-titled debut EP on January 31st, 2025. Available now on CD and on all major streaming platforms.
Hexjakt are Hampus Henningsson (guitar, vocals), Toni Åkerman (bass, vocals) and Dan Nordin (drums).
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are a newly formed doom/stoner metal band from Westmanland, Sweden. We as individuals have been playing in other bands throughout the years but we started Hexjakt in autumn 2024.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One of our challenges is to wait haha. We are super stoked to let the scene hear our music and for us to play live. So we are walking around in circles at home waiting for the album to be heard by the world.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We’re proud of the whole EP. Me and Dan, drummer, met through my job, as a tattooer and him as customer and we started to hit it off immediately. Then a few months later I bought a 412 speaker from Toni and our interactions made us form the band. So, just a few months in we rehearsed and recorded this EP. I think that’s awesome.
What was your biggest regret?
On a personal note, my biggest regret is quitting playing guitar for almost 10 years. I left my old band, Signo Rojo back in 2013 (they are still active with another guitarist) and sold all my gear. I became a father and didn’t have the time and energy for it. But in 2023 I started to play again and felt more inspired than ever.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We as a band haven’t played live yet. We are scheduled to play as an opening act for our buddies in the band 10.000 Years in the beginning of February. And we’re hungry to get out there and play live!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
A big surprise is how many good stoner/doom bands there are out there. I stumbled across new bands a lot lately and it doesn’t seem to stop. And that’s a good thing right?
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
For me it’s a lot of Electric Wizard, Windhand and Om. But also smaller local bands like Alastor and Slôdder. Really awesome bands.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
“Turn the volume up.” Haha. As a guitarist, I love to hear those words. In the rehearsal space or live. I guess I’m really not the guy that wants to be the centre of attention. A strange thing to say as a guitarist and lead singer in a Doom band but hey.
What are your guilty pleasures?
I like a good hook or melody that gets stuck in your head so I’m guessing you’d be surprised in what vinyls you would find in my collection. One example is the rock band Interpol. Man, don’t get me started on how good they are.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Westmanland?
Our local scene is most dominated by punk rock bands I guess but it’s so small so if you broaden your horizons you’ll find a number of band that leans towards rock and metal with a more retro vibe, like stoner rock etc. But I wish for it to be more places that would hold shows for alternative music, especially in our neighbourhoods.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
As of know we are booked to play with 10.000 Years in Katrineholm, Sweden, the 8th of February but we have a few other gigs in the mailbox waiting to be sorted out.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We are currently looking for a partner to perhaps release our EP as a Vinyl and an ideal scenario would be to find a record deal for a full-length album as well. And also to play live shows as much as we can.
How can people best support your band?
Follow us on our social medias and listen to our EP that was released January the 31st.
