Doomed Confessionary: Lauri Eesmaa (Sons Of Stan)
Sons Of Stan is a three-piece band from Tallinn, Estonia. They play heavy rock n’ roll mixed with doom, punk and grunge and everything else that’s raw, smokey, gnarly and thrashy.
Formed in 2016, the band’s line-up currently consists of Lauri Eesmaa (vocals, guitar), Madis Kaljurand (drums) and Margo Pajuste (bass).
Sons Of Stan released their latest EP »What If This Is All Real?« on August 14th, 2024, available now in digital format.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Dark psychedelic rock n’ roll with riffs that make a stoner cry and heavy licks that make Yngwie Malmsteen vomit.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Being a band or even a musician, in and of itself, seems to be quite a challenge, these days. Lasting this long after changing drummers, at the beginning, for several times, having to have to take several long term breaks, due to unforseen circumstances and departing ways with our guitarist, downsizing the band to three members, has been rough, I’d say.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Considering, how many bands don’t last long after the first release, to have a second one.
What was your biggest regret?
Not coming up with a better name.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Driving 700 km to play for approximately 7 people. Best gig, being the only gig outside of Estonia.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
People who are actually excited about A.I. (artificial intelligence) regarding music.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
I go through these periods, where I don’t, really listen to a lot of music. Sort of to clean the pallette or give my brain kind of a break or something. As I seem to be on one right now, I don’t really have anything on rotation, really. But if I’d have to throw something on, I’d probably put on some Ministry or Type O Negative or some 90’s grunge, like Tad or Soundgarden or something.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Fake it ’till you make it.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Cindy Lauper.
Can you say something more about current music scene in Tallinn / Estonia?
The scene in Estonia is quite small but active. Bars and venues are trying to survive as everywhere else but we keep on hangin on. Got some cool bands like Talbot, Kannabinõid and Redneck Rampage, Intrepid and a lot more. Would always recommend Nevesis but they’re not active anymore, unfortunately. Great festivals and venues. Give us a visit.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
November 8th at Rock Club Tapper, Tallinn. After that we’ll see. We’ll probably do some shows in Tallinn or a few other cities in Estonia but those dates are TBA.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
As we, basically have the material ready for second EP, we’ll try to start recording that. And in the near future, we’ll try to release our latest »What If This Is All Real?« EP on some kind of a physical format, to add to the online release.
How can people best support your band?
Buy the merch, releases and come to shows, as always.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Yes. Play our record backwards and you’ll hear it.
