Doomed Confessionary: Robert Wilson (Warpriest)
Atlanta, Georgia based traditional doom metal duo Warpriest is gearing up to release their third album »Gloombreaker« on September 13th, 2024. Like the previous two, this album features seven heavy tracks of traditional doom clocking in at 51 minutes, with male and female vocals. This album delves into the darkness of the emotions of fear, sadness, depression, anger, selfishness, and of course… death.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Warpriest is a husband and wife duo from the North Georgia mountains. We play traditional doom music in the vein of Black Sabbath (cliché?), Witch Mountain, Orchid and The Skull, with both of us handling vocal duties. We’re like the Sonny and Cher of the doom world.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Getting people to hear our music whether through social media, music sites or reviews.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Raising money for mental health with our »In A Land Without A Sun« song and campaign.
What was your biggest regret?
Not practising enough!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We don’t tour or play out.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Zakk Sabbath: »Doomed Forever / Forever Doomed« and the music for our third release coming up in September.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t take it personal. Whether it is criticism or rejection of the band. It happens and you need to move on and keep doing what you do for the enjoyment of creating.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Getting Brazilian food every time we visit Marietta, GA.
Can you say something more about the music scene in the North Georgia?
We live in a small town, so it is non-existent. But the city near us is starting to get a nice indie scene going.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We’re not playing out.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
After our third album, we will be moving away from CDs and probably whole albums in general, as it’s too much time/effort/money to do, and focus on single songs.
How can people best support your band?
Buying CDs/merch.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
We are always thankful for the people that give us a chance and like what we do. Especially those that support us. It means so much, and helps us to continue on.
