Doomed Confessionary: TJ Garcia (Waiting At The Bridge)

Waiting At The Bridge is a one-man chainsaw death sludge doom metal band from Texas, USA. Formed by TJ Garcia (ex-Ashes Of The Forgotten, ex-Aversion To Life) as known as LordT6 on various media platforms. The music is driven by low tuned sludgy riffs with lyrical themes of existential dread & horror, philosophy of cosmicism, nihilism, misanthropy and dark fantasy such as the Warhammer 40k universe. Embracing the ideas of mankind’s minuscule nature within our universe. This project is also dedicated to TJ Garcia’s feline companions both past and present.

Waiting At The Bridge’s second full-length album »As The World Burns« dropped on September 13th, 2024 and is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Can you say a few words about your band?
It’s low tuned, super sludgy, dark with chainsaw sounding guitars. Lyrically themes of existential dread, cosmicism, misanthropy, nihilism, dark fantasy like Warhammer 40K, and embracing mankind’s minuscule nature within our universe. And also cats lol This project is always dedicated to my cats from past to present.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Being a one man band. It can feel overwhelming sometimes not sharing the load with bandmates. But at the same time it’s nice being the only one doing everything.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Finally releasing music under this project is pretty up there on the most proud list. I started this project in 2017 and didn’t actually release anything officially till 2022. And with past bands, I’m proud of all the opportunities it has brought me such as hanging with dudes I used to look at on posters around my room.

What was your biggest regret?
There are a few… I won’t say what they are, I try not to think about them too much. But there are times they pop in my head. It’s a struggle but have to tell myself what’s done is done, I can’t live in the past and keep asking what if’s. Everything keeps moving forward.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Concert I’ve seen or done? I’ve done so many live shows in the past with various bands. I like them all, even the worst show is still good. I say that because you are still doing what makes you happy. I rather have a bad show over being stuck at a job I hate.
As far as seeing a concert, I feel the same way lol each band I’ve seen (way too many to count) all bring their unique personalities and show, so it’s hard to say “best”. But… gotta say the biggest stage presence & showmanship I’ve seen is Iron Maiden. The costumes, energy and seeing Bruce running all over the stage is amazing. Even being as old as they are they still bring the energy.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
How much we are alike, not everyone, but way more than I ever expected. Seeing interviews from other musicians I am sometimes saying to myself wow their background or how they got into playing music is so similar to my experiences. Seems like a majority of us struggle with mental health. Playing and listening to music is therapeutic.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
It changes so often. I sometimes keep a fellow band/musician’s playlist jamming for a bit, then stop and think of a song or band I haven’t heard in a bit then that leads to similar artist and out of no where I’m suddenly listening to something like Babymetal lol I think the top 3 bands I jam the most are Conan, Crowbar & The Acacia Strain.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
It seems a bit cliche but it’s just keep going and don’t worry about the trolls/haters/etc. What you create won’t be liked by all but will be liked.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Oh boy…. I like DnB & dubstep. I sure a few just read that and stopped reading this. Maybe even lost a few listeners lol I really like SpongeBob, the old original run of the series. I actually wrote a few riffs with SpongeBob streaming on the tv in the background.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Kress / Texas?
Where I am now there’s nothing. Very small town with a population of 700 something. But in Dallas; where I used to live, the scene was really awesome, when I was there. So many talented musicians & Deep Ellum was the place for music. Sadly since I moved in 2017 I’ve heard a lot of legendary clubs have closed their doors & the Ellum area has changed a lot. I do keep track of my friends and bands there. I see a lot of them are still out there jamming doing their thing. If any of you are reading this, I still cheer for you all even living so far away.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Sadly, there won’t be any concerts since I am a one man band. Maybe someday if there’s a big enough fan base and want for it. Never say never right? If that day comes I’ll see about finding some musicians to play live.
I know a good amount of talented musicians that I could possibly talk into helping out with a live show.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Just to keep making super sludgy riffs and not run out of ideas. And hopefully sell more shirts, I would love to see people with a Waiting At The Bridge shirts. I would feel accomplished. More so if I see a photo from a show and spot someone with WATB drip lol is drip still used?

How can people best support your band?
There are so many ways, listening, liking, follow, adding tracks to their playlists, and commenting, letting bands know that you like the music or how it feels to listen to it is huge! Also buying merch! OBEY BUY!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Life sucks and then you die… just try to survive.
Also, keep supporting places like Doomed Nation because they help us artists out a ton, mad respect.
P.S. Buy merch lol
