Doomed Confessionary: W.L.F., D.A.S. & M.A.D. (Drofnosura)

Drofnosura from Toronto, Canada are a strange beast and they’re comfortable in their own iridescent, translucent skin. They have taken elements from multiple styles such as sludge, doom, black, and even post metal, finely ground them, and used the material to sculpt a new body entirely. The influences are not as distinct any more but the entity nonetheless is able to shape-shift and display the tendencies of those styles. The movement is whimsical, rhythmic, and elegant and the listener is left enraptured by it all.

With songs going on for over 15 minutes, they do quite a lot in its duration, languidly traversing various realms, putting the emphasis on creating a meditative, transcendent atmosphere more than anything else. The music naturally evolves within each of the songs as they progress, and it isn’t fatiguing just because it’s done in such an intuitive manner.

Drofnosura’s second album »Ritual Of Split Tongues« is an astounding album where multiple influences converge to create music that’s at once expansive, stirring, and dissonant, and lingers on in the mind for longer than one would think. »Ritual Of Split Tongues« is scheduled for release on October 24th, 2025 via Transcending Obscurity Records.

Drofnosura are W.L.F. (guitars, vocals, synthesizers), D.A.S. (drums & percussion, vocals, synthesizers) and M.A.D. (bass, vocals, synthesizers).

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Our music drifts between cosmic noise and ambient voids.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Currently, it’s the physical distance between us – and, as a whole, a mix of overcoming negative headspaces and maintaining our social media presence.

What can you be most proud of so far?
So far I think we all agree that the material on our upcoming record, »Ritual Of Split Tongues«, is a point of pride for us. We took a lot of chances and really went all in with this record.

What was your biggest regret?
Regret is a tough one. We definitely have some regrets, but a lot of amazing things have transpired over this past year and we are now sitting in the best position we’ve ever been, so we’re focused on that. Everything has led us to this moment.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Back in March of this year we had the absolute honor of being included on Panzerfausts 20th anniversary show with Thantifaxath as direct support. Both acts are powerful forces. The sound in the venue was unbelievable. Amazing energy in the room all night.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I guess the biggest surprise in the Toronto scene that we’ve been a part of is just how quick bands come and go. Even bands with a ton of potential or a decent following just seem to vanish into thin air after a few years.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
W.L.F.: Floating – Hesitating Lights, Witherer – Shadow Without A Horizon, Swans – Birthing

D.A.S.: Acid Bath – Paegan Terrorism Tactics, Haunted Plasma – Haunted Plasma, A Flock Named Murder – Incendiary Sanctum

M.A.D.: The Order Of The Precious Blood – Dark Hallucinations, Dissection – The Somberlain, Model/Actriz – Pirouette

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Find your own voice. Be you. You’re the only one that can. This is where the magic resides.

What are your guilty pleasures?
While we all have our stylistic preferences, we all dip into things well outside of the metal spectrum. None of us have guilt or shame for enjoying any music as it’s all subjective, but it doesn’t mean we won’t razz each other about it.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Toronto / Ontario?
There are different scenes within Toronto, and a ton of great, creative people and bands in every space. We’ve been fortunate enough to find like-minded individuals and foster true friendships within our scene. Sadly though, it feels like the art and music community in Toronto is slowly being chipped away by condos and commercial investments, as a lot of venues and spaces we felt at home in have now been closed. Additionally, touring in Ontario and Canada is a challenge in itself because everything is spread so far apart.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Currently we don’t have anything booked. Once the album is released, we hope to get out to some places around Ontario and the neighboring provinces we haven’t had the privilege of playing yet.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We hope to continue to grow and take our sound in new places, while keeping true to the spirit. We have a few themes and concepts kicking around that we want to dive into and see where the muse leads us.

How can people best support your band?
If people dig what they hear or are curious, come see us live, say hey, pick up some merch and spread the word. If you can’t come see us live, grab a pre-order and some new merch for our upcoming album at Transcending Obscurity Records.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks to anyone and everyone who has checked us out, helped us out or shown us some love along the way. Get ready for our next offering, »Ritual Of Split Tongues«, coming out October 24, 2025, through Transcending Obscurity Records. It’s a trip.
