Doomed Confessionary: Wolfe Peterson (Holystone)

Holystone is a three-piece psychedelic stoner/doom metal band from Brisbane, Australia. Comprised of Wolfe Peterson (guitar, vocals), Jonny Pickvance (drums) and Jack Bratt (bass), long time musical collaborators that decided to lean in to their instincts and create the stoner-laiden epic riffs, soaring vocals and thunderous drums akin to the music that they feasted on in their youth.

Holystone’s debut album »East Of The Sun, West Of The Moon« was released on February 29th, 2024.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Holystone is a 3 piece desert-stoner-rock cult from Brisbane, Australia.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Other than spreading the good word about our music, deciding the direction of the band in the beginning took alot of sand sifting. It is easy to write a heavy song but it’s tough to take a hard look at it and and put it aside if it is not good enough.

What can you be most proud of so far?
We get some lovely messages and comments, about our album or after live shows. It not only a boost for the band, but let’s us know we are one the right path. We believe strongly in our music.

What was your biggest regret?
Not getting in ears early. My live vocals improved massively.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Rather than a show I’ll mention our giant road trip in the USA this April while recording our second album. We drove about 10k kilometres together with our lovely, supporting partners and had a blast partying and seeing the sights whilst meeting friendly Americans. We recorded in Seattle and then Joshua tree and the record is sounding amazing. Not sure I’ll ever recover.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We’ve each been in different bands for 20 years and seen some wild stuff. What surprise me is we never get tired of gigging.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Holy Serpents latest album is amazing. We recently recorded with Jack Endino so I have been thrashing »Bleach«, such a unique album, especially the 2nd half.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Is the standby on?

What are your guilty pleasures?
Staying up all night, drinking too much before a gig, skipping vocal warmups and Nelly Furtado.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Brisbane?
Brisbane is the capital of the the state of Queensland, which has a population of about 1.4 million but very spread out. We have a small heavy scene but full of talented, passionate people and venues, such as our favourite Mo’s Desert Clubhouse.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are finishing final tracking on album #2 and we avoid playing in the heat of the Aussie summer. We look to start gig again in Feb/Mar 2025.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Album 2 comes out in 2025 and it’s a beast, we can’t wait to share it. We are also looking into an Australian and maybe even a European tour.

Do you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
A bottle of wine and a tear for the human race running down my cheek.

How can people best support your band?
It would help to listen to the album, tell your friends, come to the shows, jump in on preorder on vinyl…

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Big love guys, keep listening and sharing, come say hello at the gigs.
