Swedish occult psychedelic rockers Luciferian Light Orchestra share new single and lyric video »The Fourth Way«

Swedish occult psychedelic rockers Luciferian Light Orchestra (side project of Christofer Johnsson from Therion) have released new single and lyric video »The Fourth Way«, the opening track from their forthcoming second album »Luciferian Light Orchestra II«.

»The Fourth Way« is now available on all major streaming platforms!

“This is not a single from the new Luciferian Light Orchestra album in the traditional sense. It’s the opening track and we are releasing the album song by song with 6 weeks in between.

Is the song representative of how the album sounds? Yes and no. No other song sounds anything like this one. And for the first time we use the bridge pick up on the Stratocaster for the rhythm guitars, which gives a brighter and clearer sound. Instead of the usual neck pick up which has a darker and bulkier sound. So that makes the song stick out sound wise.

But the album has a variation in styles, much more diverse than the debut. So it is as representative as any other song in terms of composition I guess.

The vocals is done by Taida, Thomas and a Colombian girl called Nataly Ossman. On this album I had the hardest time ever to find the right voice for the right part, in many places I had to blend several voices to get the results I wanted. So it’s more scattered (like you are used to with Therion) than the debut album, which also had several singers, but was more divided per song rather than between the parts within the songs.

The narration at the end was done by myself. I had planned it to be a female voice, sounding a bit like an old hypnosis tape on cassette from the 1970’s. My grandmother had one for quitting smoking that I heard as a small child and I found it very creepy back then and wanted to recreate that vibe. But I completely forgot about it and remembered it just when I compiled the files for the mix. So I set up a microphone and just did it myself before sending off the files. In retrospect, I think it turned out just as good, but now it’s more like you hear a voice in a dream.

The studio where we mixed (Gizzard Studios in London) has an Automatic Double Tracking device and as Beatles fans, we of course wanted to use that on something. So we used it on some of the the vocals in three songs. Nataly got the honour of being the first one in this song.

The drums were played by Björn Höglund. Sami is playing on a bunch of tracks on the record as well. Speaking of drums – isn’t it amazing to hear a bass drum that sound like… [sit down and hold on to something] a bass drum? Instead of sounding like a food spoon smacked against gelly, like in most modern metal productions today. This in combination with the warm analog sound is something I personally appreciate a lot. It sounds great already as a digital streaming file, so I can’t wait to hear how it will sound on vinyl though a proper home stereo.” — Christofer Johnsson
