»Dirt & Bone«, the secomd single from Stormbringer’s fifth studio album »Transcendence«, is a dark and moody track. The lyrics were originally written for the Blood and Rust album before Mike’s departure from the band in 2015.
“Revisiting the lyrics again during rehearsals of this new song, brought back memories of a time when I felt drained and overwhelmed by how I viewed myself and my place in the world.
I was clearly not in a good space and needed support and care from friends and loved ones. While it pains me now to think about how harshly I treated myself, I can also recognise that period as a dangerous, yet important part of my personal growth.

Northamptonshire rock band Stormbringer are back with a bang with their storming new album »Transcendence«, out on September 4th on Attic Records.
Blending a mix of classic rock and heavy metal with a contemporary edge that sets them apart, the band have released 4 albums, played numerous shows and festivals, including both Download and main stage at Bloodstock and are now raising the bar with their fifth and most powerful album yet.
Following the journey of their previous albums, Stormbringer continue to evolve with »Transcendence« – a record that explores adversity, resilience, self-acceptance and the complex relationship between personal struggles and the world around us.
Musically, the album represents a further evolution of the band’s signature sound, combining crushing riffs, powerful melodies and emotionally charged performances. Stormbringer continue to embrace their heavy rock foundations while pushing their songwriting into new and more expansive territory.
“Every album captures a moment in time,” explains vocalist Mike Stockley. “Transcendence is about growth through adversity. It’s about recognising and accepting the darkness without allowing it to define you. The album confronts life’s struggles on both a personal and societal level, exploring the challenges we face as individuals while also reflecting on the world around us. These songs aren’t about offering easy answers – they’re about questioning, understanding and ultimately finding the strength to move forward.”
Produced by legendary producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, At the Gates, The Wildhearts, The Exploited, Evile, The Haunted, New Model Army, Eradikator, Evil Scarecrow, Raging Speedhorn) and recorded at Parlour Studios in Kettering, Northamptonshire, Stormbringer return with their most ambitious and emotionally profound release to date.
A Journey Through Stormbringer’s Evolution
»Transcendence« represents a return to the foundations of Stormbringer’s identity, drawing inspiration from the themes and emotional honesty established on the band’s debut album »MMXIII«, while continuing the evolution of perspective explored on their fourth album »AIIV«. Where »MMXIII« was rooted in deeply personal reflection, exploring vocalist Mike Stockley’s own internal struggles, experiences and emotional battles, it represented the beginning of Stormbringer’s journey – a raw and honest exploration of the self.
By contrast, »AIIV« marked a shift in focus, looking beyond the individual to examine the wider world and the challenges faced by society. Its themes explored external struggles, social division, modern culture and the forces that shape the world around us. »Transcendence« brings these two perspectives together. It explores both the internal and external battles we face – the conflicts within ourselves alongside the challenges created by the world around us.
The album embraces the concept of the shadow self – recognising that personal growth does not come from rejecting the darker aspects of who we are, but from understanding and accepting them. It explores the fears, flaws, experiences and emotions that shape us, while acknowledging that our personal struggles exist within a wider human experience.
»Transcendence« is the meeting point between looking inward and looking outward. It is about self-acceptance, awareness and growth – a reflection of where Stormbringer have been, where they are now, and where they are heading next.
