»Soma« is a big deal: 5 sonic tableaux, all bearing the same title »Opposite«, stretching from 8 to over 12 minutes. The Drôme-based band defend their “progressive and enveloping, powerful and cathartic” approach, counterbalanced by an energy far too rarefied in post-metal. But Båkü also pay particular attention to the long, ambient phases that intervene between two seismic strikes, over which Daniel Arnoux’s raw voice belches out.

A whole concept is developed through this first opus, with Båkü taking up the challenge of transposing 3 phases into music: sleep, awakening and waking. A direct reference to the band’s name, as you’ll see! The fact remains that the band offers a true sensory experience, which despite its ambitious duration of almost 54 minutes, feels like it flies by in the blink of an eye.

Another asset that makes Båkü stand out from the crowd: this sumptuous album artwork, created by Emy R. of Arrache Toi Un Œil!
