Formed in Florianópolis, Brazil, Tetric Tone is the result of the union of old friends who were in bands together at different times in the underground metal scene of the capital of Santa Catarina. Xande “Camisão”, Rafael “Grilo”, and Claudio Regis, members of the city’s first generation of headbangers, formed the band Vastness (1988–1994), which was part of the local scene with historic shows, such as those at Rock no Bosque. Later, Xande and Claudio played in Agony (1992–1994), while Rafael Grilo, Gian Domingues, and David Victor were part of Morbus Inferno (1996–2002), a death/thrash band that also marked the city’s scene.

In 2016, the band began rehearsing with the simple purpose of playing and having fun, with a setlist based only on songs by great metal references, such as Black Sabbath. However, the group already had a different sound in mind, with heavier guitars and a very prominent bass.

Over time, the band began working on their own compositions and building an identity that draws influences from various heavy metal subgenres, especially classic heavy metal and doom metal, combining heavy and dense riffs with some thrash influence. The choruses are memorable, and the lyrics deal with parallel realities, the complexity of human behavior, and the dystopias of the modern world.

A result of a combination of varied influences, such as Mercyful Fate, Candlemass, Black Sabbath, and Metallica, the album »Tetric Tone« is the group’s debut and features artwork by Desenhos Malditos. Composed of nine tracks, the material arrives about ten years after the band’s formation and showcases the entire process of maturation and musical development of the quintet. The release will take place on August 21st on streaming platforms, preceded by the single »Oniric Reality«.
