One With The Riverbed is a five-piece blackened post-metal band from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Formed in 2017, One With The Riverbed consists of Jared Koons (vocals), Bryan Neterer (guitar), John C. Scott (guitar), Lisa Bridenstine (bass) and Jimmy Welty (drums).
One With The Riverbed has released their long-awaited album »Succumb« worldwide on October 25th, 2024 via Dusktone. Blending elements of atmospheric black metal and post-metal, »Succumb« is a harrowing and immersive journey through anguish, transformation, and sonic catharsis. Drawing comparisons to genre titans such as Wolves In The Throne Room, Envy, and Shadows Fall, the album delivers waves of emotional intensity, dynamic dissonance, and bleak beauty.
The band has developed a reputation for crafting emotionally charged soundscapes that push the boundaries of heavy music. »Succumb« represents the band’s most ambitious and refined work to date – a raw yet cinematic experience that resonates deeply with listeners.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
One with the Riverbed is a five piece band from Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. We’ve been a band for around 7 years and we’ve released 3 albums.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
One of our biggest ongoing challenges is balancing five individual schedules while operating as a band. Everyone in the group has their own work, personal lives, and responsibilities outside of music, so finding time to write, rehearse, and tour requires a lot of coordination and flexibility.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Collectively, we’re most proud of how self-sufficient we’ve been able to be so far. We currently handle all of our own tour booking and are always looking for new places to perform. It takes a lot of coordination and effort.
What was your biggest regret?
It’s hard to say. I’m not sure we really have any regrets. Every experience, or show, etc. is different and has been worthwhile in its own way. We’re thankful for whatever comes our way.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
This year, we came off of a brief, planned hiatus. Now that we’re back at it, we’re looking forward to touring the Southern United States for the first time and supporting Conan and Mares Of Thrace on their stop in our area.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Our musical community is tight locally. Even when we tour in brand new areas the bands and people we meet are incredibly welcoming.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Alcest – Kodama
Cheins – 1.8.7. Myself
Autumn Nostalgie – Metatonia
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Some of the best advice we’ve received is to always focus on the song and the overall vibe. It’s easy to overthink or overplay, but sometimes less really is more. Serving the mood and intention of the song tends to lead to something that feels more powerful and lasting.
What are your guilty pleasures?
We draw inspiration from a lot of different places, so it’s hard to call anything a true “guilty” pleasure. That said, there have definitely been plenty of van rides where we’ve revisited metal and metalcore albums from the early to mid-2000s.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Kalamazoo?
Kalamazoo, Michigan has a vibrant underground music community. Everyone knows each other and is enthusiastic about new projects in the scene. It’s not uncommon to see a mixed bill with a bunch of different genres. The bands here are usually very unique and push the boundaries of their respective styles.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
This autumn, we’re playing eight shows as we venture into the Southern U.S., with stops in Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, and more. We’re also currently exploring tour possibilities for 2026 but nothing set in stone as of yet.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
I don’t think we have any concrete plans other than continuing to write music that we’re proud of and performing as often as life allows us.
How can people best support your band?
If people want to support us the best way is to check out our merch or support the labels that have supported our releases.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
We’d like to thank anyone who has taken the time to check us out in any capacity. We truly appreciate the support.
Also, thanks to Doomed Nation for featuring us!
