Doomed Confessionary: Jose & Javi (The Sky Creepers)

The Sky Creepers is a stoner blues rock duo from Málaga, Spain.
The Andalusian band, formed by Javi Mauriño and Jose C. Valderrama, is back in the musical scene with their second album, »Beyond The Void«. This work marks a new chapter in the career of the duo, who has been exploring the realms of stoner, blues rock and doom since their formation in 2020.
After their first album, »Moon Valley« (2022), The Sky Creepers now plunge us into a darker and heavier sonic universe. »Beyond The Void« is a work that reflects the evolution of the band without losing the essence that characterizes it. This new album counts with the collaboration of several bands from the local scene such as Lunavieja, Red Eye, The Silver Linings and Dreadful, which bring richness and depth to this production.
With this release, The Sky Creepers invites us to go into the depths of their musical universe and discover what is hidden beyond the void. »Beyond The Void« is set for release on May 16th, 2025 via Discos Macarras Records and Málaga Hardcore.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Hi! We are The Sky Creepers, a power duo from Torremolinos (Málaga, Spain). We like a lot of the fuzz and distorted sounds and we play bluesy stoner/doom. Also, we are presenting our second album, »Beyond The Void«, which will be released on May 16th.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
While in certain ways – like direct communication and fast decision taking – being only two members is an advantage, it also means more work for each of us and it limits songwriting and composition too, but we like this challenge – it forces us to be more creative!
What can you be most proud of so far?
Maybe it’s having managed to sound like a full band being two members using pedals and composing and playing as a whole. But also, being good friends in this kind of musical marriage for years.
What was your biggest regret?
Life is difficult sometimes, we play in other bands (Javi in Dirty Army and Jose in Lunavieja), our jobs and personal life… managing every aspect of a band can be overwhelming. Luckily, this almost never happens, but it sucks to argue or to have uncomfortable conversations with your buddy. Fortunately we can talk about everything and solve our small differences.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Maybe a concert we played a few months ago at a self-managed social center, CSA Las Vegas. It was a solidarity festival where a few bands from our local scene played to raise money for Plastic Woods, a great band of friends who lost all their equipment in a robbery. There were a lot of people, and it was fun, especially because it was a nice gathering of a large part of the local scene, supporting each other.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The picture is that most of the scene is aging and decreasing due to adult responsibilities, but lately a lot of bands are emerging, formed by young people and there’s also a young audience with a lot of passion going to concerts. That’s lovely and hopeful, they are the present and the future.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Jose is lately a lot into Full Of Hell, Cult Leader and Radiohead. Javi is listening to Queens Of The Stone Age, Incubus and Seether. And Black Sabbath, always Black Sabbath.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Enjoying the process and the people you’ll meet along the way, it’s the most important thing of all of this.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Javi says My Chemical Romance… first news for Jose, who is going to confess that he loves »Gasolina« by Daddy Yankee. He doesn’t like reggaeton but… oh god, what a masterpiece.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Málaga?
In Málaga we have a really healthy local scene with several talented bands (a lot of us are friends and support each other by going to concerts and buying music and merch), some promoters who do their job only because they love music and quite a lot of public. We wish more venues and small places with live music (with original compositions, please, not only covers) and more city hall support, but well… this is underground music.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Next week we will be presenting Beyond the Void at Sala Marte with Apocryphal Verses, Zimabü Etër and Karbon Zero, and we have other concerts around here like Into the Vortex Fest at the best venue of our city by far, La Trinchera.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
We want to tour around the country presenting our second album and we will continue working on our third album, for which we already have some ideas.
How can people best support your band?
As any band, you can listen to us and, if you like, you can buy music or merch. But this is not only for us, this is a general request: go to concerts, know new bands and people who share your passion – everybody has a piece of responsibility for the growth of their local scene.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks a lot, every kind of support means a lot for us! Long live underground music!
