Doomed Nation

Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Quini, Mano, Fran & Suso (Lucifèrnaga)

Lucifèrnaga is a four-piece doom/stoner metal band from Vigo, Spain. The quartet consists of Quini Estévez (vocals, guitar), Mano García (guitar), Fran Álvarez (bass) and Suso Valcárcel (drums).

In the dark and mystical land of Galicia, specifically in the parish of Candeán, there is a unique sonorous force that emanates from the depths: Luciférnaga. Formed by musicians with more than 20 years of experience on stage, Luciférnaga is not just a band; it is a sound entity that encapsulates the very essence of doom and stoner metal. Each member brings his vast experience, having played in renowned Galician rock and metal bands throughout their prolific careers such as Supa Scoopa, The Mirage, Supernatural, In.Verno, N.O.T. or Mano de Piedra.

Luciférnaga’s music is a journey through the darkness of the human being, exploring the darkest recesses of the psyche and facing the inner hell that lies in each one of us, it is a sound ritual that invokes melancholy, contemplation and, sometimes, even to be tasted. With each chord, Luciférnaga submerge in a sonic journey where heavy and enveloping riffs are combined with introspective and evocative lyrics, dealing with themes ranging from the self-destruction of humanity to the inevitable attraction to the dark side imbued with poetic pessimism.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We are new band but with tons of experience because all members have been playing in different projects for many years, more than 20…and one day we realized we did not play doom on any of our other projects, so we got together and that’s how Lucifernaga was born, becuase of our love for doom heavy music.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Since we haven’t been together for that long yet, we can say that we haven’t faced many challenges so far, probably the biggest one is being able to combine band practice and shows with our jobs, other projects and life in general.

What can you be most proud of so far?
How easy and natural it was for us to come up with the songs for the first album, surprisingly fast to be honest, but also the way we sound already when we play live, most people in our shows do not believe that we haven’t been playing together for a long time.

What was your biggest regret?
Not having starter sooner with the band!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The best is yet to come, that’s for sure, we have some cool shows this summer, but probably the last one was the best based on how comfortable we where on the stage and the response from the audience.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
After so many years playing not many surprises to be honest, more than surprised we are disappointed because things are getting more and more difficult for bands like us or underground bands in general.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
That’s a difficult one because we have really different tastes for music in the band, maybe that’s our secret….but for sure Black Sabbath is always there, some good Monolord, Windhand, Electric Wizard, good old stoner for sure…but we listen to a little bit of everything.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Do not create music for an audience, create it for you.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Pedals and beers, what else do you need?!!

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Vigo?
Music scene is in really good shape now in terms of number of bands and quality of the projects, there’s a lot and really good going on here, but the problem is that finding places to play or even getting good deals for playing is more and more difficult these days. There’s so much offer that the venues are fully booked most of time and that’s becoming a problem.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Our next show will be in Seixas (Portugal) on June 6th, and then we’ll be playing at Kanekas Metal Fest in July close to Vigo, and we have another two fests by end of summer here in the north of Spain. With our first album getting released soon, we’ll try to book a few more shows as soon as we can.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Just keep on having fun playing and creating some good music we can be proud of, we like to keep it simple with this project.

How can people best support your band?
Coming to our shows, buying our music in Bandcamp or whenever you see us live, and if you like what you are hearing, tell your friends!!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
