Introducing: Russian one-man melodic doom/death metal band Talsur!

Formed on October 11, 2015 in Penza, Russia by Vitaly Surkov, Talsur is a one-man project that plays doom metal and its subgenres. Lyrical themes relate to despair, loneliness, unhappy love, fear of the inevitability of death, struggle with fate, as well as the contemplation of nature.

In December of the same year, the debut album »Tuonela« was released. The band does not perform with concerts and is exclusively engaged in studio activities. The big push is the EP »Angerdoom«, released on May 4, 2016. After the release of this EP, Talsur became known in Spain, Sweden, Brazil, China, and even the United States.

Talsur’s highest-quality and most successful release to date is the fourth album »Slough Of Despond«. It was written in the style of funeral doom, released on January 13, 2017, and almost immediately became one of the best-selling on the Bandcamp service. This album attracted a lot of western media coverage of underground music, and also added a Russian audience to the band.

In July 2017, the EP »Offertorium« was released, which was also well received by the public. Death/doom metal was chosen as the main genre with elements of gothic doom, a special influence during the work on the release was the band Paradise Lost. Fifth album »Tormented« (2018) is strongly influenced by the early era of Peaceville Records, in particular My Dying Bride. The album featured a guest musician for the first time – the violin parts were performed by Sofia Strazhkova. On Halloween 2019, the sixth album »Eversleep« was released, which featured a lighter mood and a lack of extreme vocals. The work of Type O Negative and Anathema played a special influence on the album.

Following »Dark« (2022), the latest full-length album »Lighthouse For A Charon’s Boat« was released on October 12, 2024. The doomed souls, led by Charon into the world of shadows, will never see the light again. Only a single glimmer of the lighthouse lights up in the distance and goes out again. Everything perishable fades away, only to be rekindled. For thousands of years, souls have been casting their gazes at him, and the lighthouse keeps calling. And no one cares who exactly turns on the light there, and when his soul’s turn comes.
