Brévine is a post-metal band from Lausanne, Switzerland, founded in 2023. The trio offers deep and authentic music, composed to be felt and experienced like an inner journey. Oscillating between soaring instrumental post-rock, nostalgic and sometimes melancholic blackgaze and massive post-hardcore, the band blends pop and electronic influences as well as classical elements. Brévine’s music is immersive and mesmerizing – sometimes hard and dense like stone, sometimes airy and fluid like water.
Following the first single »Cîme«, Brévine’s debut album »LHOTSE« will be released on September 12th, 2025 via These Hands Melt.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
Matt: Brévine is my biggest and most ambitious project so far. It’s a mix of everything I like and what inspires me as a musician: the heaviness of post-hardcore, the ambiance and deep feelings of classical touch, the epicness of a story to be told.
Rayan: We are a post-rock/metal band of 3 people with different musical influences. This is a very interesting scenario since we are very open minded about what we create. Each member can come with an idea that is, sometimes, instantly inspiring for everyone and sometimes a bit more tricky to vibe with. But in the end we have the same goal: trying to make the best music that we want to hear!
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Matt: For the band itself it’s been to write something honest, impactful and deep without taking any shortcuts nor “easy ways”. Personally the challenge was to write the vocals and the bass as 2 separated instruments. The task is not easy and I’ve tried my best to make both of them as interesting as I could.
Rayan: I think it would be the recording process for our first album. Personally it was the first time I had to record guitars (since I was a singer and/or a bass player in my previous bands). It was a hard time to make it easy and flawless but I learned a lot so I loved it!
What can you be most proud of so far?
Matt: I think we are all very proud of how the album sounds. Every step of the production has been really well managed (from the band POV or from the person in charge of mix, master, additional orchestrations etc). The result is Lhotse and we’re beyond happy.
Rayan: Definitely the dedication and resilience we put into this band. Since we’ve set huge goals for this project we have to do things the best we can and constantly question ourselves.
What was your biggest regret?
Matt: I think my biggest regret overall is having waited so many years before taking back control of my physical health. Since I’ve started working out and eating with a very high level of control and care, my life has changed for the very best and I regret I waited nearly too long for that.
Rayan: I don’t think I regret anything. We certainly made mistakes here and there but that’s the only way to be better next time if we accept them.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Matt: I’ve had the chance to play twice at Hellfest with two different bands (Cân Bardd & Belore) and I think those two performances have been the most intense experiment for me so far. Not only the gigs themselves but it’s an overall experience to play in front of 10k people, at this level of organization and professionalism from the festival.
Rayan: I think it’s the very first concert I did with my first band. This was the start of everything that followed: doing more gigs, meeting more awesome people and having fun ’til today!

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Matt: Lately I’ve discovered so many cool artists… My list is very long. If I had to choose 2, I would say Sofiane Pamart with the album »Planet Gold« and MONO with »Hymn To The Immortal Wind«.
Rayan: The biggest surprise was (and still is) how people can be so passionate about music in general. There are so many great bands to discover, powerful shows to witness and deep messages to be shared… All these surprises could not be possible without such passionate people behind them I think.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Matt: I switch between Muse and System Of A Down discographies since April for no reason.
Rayan: Blood Incantation, Dakhma, Khonsu, Softcult, Turnstile, Emma Ruth Rundle…
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Matt: “Stop writing music to please people.”
Rayan: “Don’t try to be perfect because it’s the best way to do nothing in the end” I guess.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Matt: Asian food and very expensive whiskies.
Rayan: Eating pizza 4 times a week, playing videogames until 2am.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Lausanne?
Matt: We come from the Lausanne area in the French part of Switzerland, and in this area and in the French speaking area in general we have a lot of amazing bands, pretty much for any type of metal you like. Which is nice!
Rayan: It’s a pretty small scene but there’s a lot of musicians playing in two bands or more so it’s pretty funny and cool to see friends playing that much music.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Matt: We’ll announce very soon the release party of »LHOTSE«. Keep an eye on our socials 😉
Rayan: Only in Switzerland for 2025, next year will be way more exciting for sure!
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Matt: We’ll release the album on the 20th of September. But we’ve already started to write new songs. It’s important for us to keep moving, experiment with new sounds. And as we also have a new drummer, we would love to implicate him in this process too.
Rayan: Working on the next album, playing shows outside of Switzerland… basically trying to keep growing as a band!
How can people best support your band?
Matt: As usual for bands like us, the best way is to buy some merch and come at gigs and say hi!
Rayan: Share our music I would say ! That’s how everything else comes together.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Matt: First of all thanks for listening to our music, especially in 2025 it’s very hard to be discovered even if you’re doing great stuff. And also: we hope you’ll like the rest of the album as much as we do!
Rayan: Huge thanks for your interest in our music. I hope you’re safe and we can’t wait to share what’s next with you!
