Doomed Confessionary: Antoon, Kevin & Soren (Juneau)

Juneau is an alternative metal band that originated from Heist-op-den-Berg, a town located in the Flanders region of Belgium. Known for their atmospheric and dynamic sound, Juneau blends elements of post-rock, doom, black metal, and other heavy genres, creating a unique musical identity that resonates with fans across Belgium and beyond.
Formed in 2019, the band initially consisted of drummer Soren R. Van Bauwel and guitarists Kevin Cravillon and Antoon Verbeeck, who share a deep passion for creating emotionally charged music. Their sound is often characterized by rich guitar textures and intricate and dynamic drumming. Heavy smacks and energetic guitar rhythms are just a fragment of the music the Belgians produce. Swaying, atmosphere-drenched melodies get into the play as well. Inside all the heaviness the trio keeps the eyes on melodic segments to uplift their work to an emotional connectivity.
Juneau have released their second full-length album »Scraps Of The Final Lights« on October 15th, 2025 via Tokyo Jupiter Records, A Cheery Wave Records and De Mist Records. With the release of the new album, the band continues to push boundaries with their creativity and dedication to their craft.
Can you please say a few words about your band?
We are an alternative metal threepiece from Belgium known for its atmospheric and dynamic sound: blending elements of post-rock, doom, black metal and other heavy genres into a unique musical identity that moves between serenity and chaos.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Definitely starting out during the pandemic. In our first serious year as a band we had to cancel around ten shows, including the release show for our debut EP. It cut a lot of momentum short.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our new record »Scraps Of The Final Lights«. It feels like our most complete, honest and immersive work to date, and we’re very proud of how it turned out.
What was your biggest regret?
Those early cancellations due to Covid. We were ready to take off, and suddenly everything stopped.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We absolutely love playing abroad; discovering new scenes and meeting new people always gives us a special kind of energy. But we also really enjoy performing in our home country. Last summer we played a festival in Mechelen with a big crowd and a great atmosphere, and our debut show at Kavka in Antwerp was also unforgettable. We also have a special place in our heart for the underground venue Antwerp Music City.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The strength and diversity of the global underground. You constantly discover passionate bands, labels and communities doing incredible things with very limited means. It’s inspiring.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
A mix of hardcore, post-metal, atmospheric black metal, and anything with emotional weight and strong dynamics.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Focus on authenticity, not trends. If the music is honest, it will eventually find its audience.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Some of us love overly catchy pop, and others can’t resist late-night junk food. No shame whatsoever.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Belgium?
Belgium has a vibrant and diverse underground scene with a strong DIY spirit. There is no such thing as a scene in our hometown but there are many Belgian passionate volunteers, local venues and music communities that help keep everything alive.
Where can we see you live soon (concerts/tours)?
In early December we’ll be performing in Japan at the invitation of Tokyo Jupiter Records; something we’re incredibly excited about. In 2026 we have a festivalshow on Earuption Fest in February planned.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
To continue shaping and refining our sound, to play more shows, and to build a growing community around our music.
How can people best support your band?
By coming to shows, buying merch or music, either online or at gigs, and by spreading the word. It helps more than people realize.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you for supporting us. We genuinely appreciate every person who takes the time to listen, share or show up. It means everything.
