Impure Wilhelmina, the Geneva-based quartet whose sound sits between post-metal and progressive dark rock, today shares a full album stream of »Le sanglot«, their forthcoming album, due for release tomorrow, May 22nd, 2026. Running ten tracks over fifty minutes, the album marks the band’s most significant creative shift to date: all lyrics written and sung in French for the first time in the band’s three-decade history.

Stream »Le sanglot« HERE.

Conceived as the sonic equivalent of weeping, »Le sanglot« surveys a fractured world with surgical coldness, yet never forecloses on the possibility of grace. The record moves between crushing weight and melodic restraint, from the cathartic surge of opening track »Électricité noire« to the fragile radiance of closer »À jamais radieuse«, with the French language sharpening both the imagery and the emotional register throughout. The album also introduces guitarist Edouard Nicod, whose arrangements broaden the band’s textural scope, and features a collaboration with French artist Mütterlein on »Train mort«, the record’s most abrasive moment.

»Le sanglot« is out May 22nd, 2026 via Season Of Mist. Pre-order & pre-save HERE.

Born in Geneva’s alternative underground in 1996, Impure Wilhelmina has forged a singular path between metal and progressive dark rock, marked by density, melody, and emotional restraint. After three decades of evolution and renewal, the quartet now enters a new chapter with »Le sanglot«, their most radical, yet organic, transformation to date.

Entirely written and sung in French, »Le sanglot« sharpens the band’s vision into something more direct, more cutting, and more exposed. The album is conceived as a sob in sound, the musical equivalent of human tears. Its lyrics observe a fractured world with surgical coldness, portraying ugliness, mediocrity, and quiet violence, yet never abandoning the possibility of grace. From the cathartic surge of »Électricité noire« to the fragile radiance of »À jamais radieuse«, darkness and light circulate in constant tension. The record refines Impure Wilhelmina’s blend of progressive, dark, and melodic rock metal, driven by magnetic vocals and deeply textured arrangements. The arrival of guitarist Edouard Nicod broadens the sonic architecture, while the collaboration with Marion Leclercq (Mütterlein) on »Train mort« pushes the album into its most abrasive terrain.

»Le sanglot« will be released on May 22nd, 2026 via Season Of Mist. It is the band’s first record written and sung entirely in French, and the first to feature guitarist Edouard Nicod. The album was recorded and mixed by Yvan Bing at Kitchen Studio, Geneva, and mastered by Magnus Lindberg at Redmount Studio, Stockholm.
