The Mothercrow conjures up the sound and striking appearance of the classic four piece from the golden age of rock, with sonic ideals stretching from late sixties blues rock and psychedelia, to late seventies hard rock and proto-heavy metal.

Their musical vision transcends narrow labels, aiming to encapsulate a diverse range of influences, rather than conforming to the boundaries of one of the many sub genres their music has been placed in; heavy psych, stoner rock, hard rock, blues rock, to name a few. If given no choice, The Mothercrow would opt for the broader and more ambiguous term “heavy rock”.

Their records aspire to be as bluesy as Led Zeppelin, as groovy as Grand Funk Railroad, as hard as Deep Purple, as heavy as Black Sabbath, and as epic as Rainbow. However, there is no denial that contemporary bands such as Graveyard, Blues Pills, and Rival Sons, have also left discernible imprints on The Mothercrow’s musical identity.

Regardless of what you decide to call them, powerful voice and wild stage antics of front woman Karen Asensio, combined with Max Eriksson’s relentless guitar riffs, and the tight, thundering rhythm section that is Jaume Darder (drums) and Daniel Ribeiro (bass), makes for an explosive cocktail that guarantees to leave no one indifferent.

Biography:
Defined by an unwavering spirit and dedicated commitment to their craft, the current incarnation of The Mothercrow stands as a testament to the enduring strength of passion and the capacity to overcome obstacles on the journey to musical success.

It all began in 2015, when the paths of vocalist Karen Asensio and guitarist Ram Lorenzo crossed in Barcelona, igniting a musical collaboration fueled by the shared love of sixties blues rock and psychedelia. The duo quickly grew to encompass bassist Claudia González and drummer Gerard Fernández, and the young band’s talent was soon recognized by Taller de Musics Barcelona and Cabal Musical, who provided the resources to record and release their eponymous debut EP in 2016.

Faced with the departure of Ram and Gerard in 2017, shortly after the release of their second EP »On The Road«, Karen and Claudia took charge, navigating through temporary lineups to keep The Mothercrow alive. Despite the challenges, the band went on the road to promote their latest release and soon found themselves sharing stages with international powerhouses like Siena Root and Ecstatic Vision.

In 2018, the band finally solidified its lineup with local drummer Pep Carabante and Swedish guitarist Max Eriksson, bringing about a stylistic shift towards a heavier sound. The addition of these new members fueled a burst of creativity, leading to the composition of many songs that continue to be standout features in their live performances to this day. In their inaugural year together, they successfully completed a crowdfunding campaign, raising 4000 euros. This financial support enabled them to record their debut album, »Magara«, released to critical acclaim in May 2019. The album showcased a stylistical progression and earned accolades from both local and international music press.

The subsequent years brought a phase of transition, initially marked by Claudia’s departure, followed by Pep’s. Committed to weathering the turbulence and emerging stronger, Karen and Max enlisted the expertise of the seasoned bass player Daniel Ribeiro and welcomed the young and hungry Jaume Darder on the drums, injecting a fresh and positive energy into the lineup. As for so many other bands, the pandemic almost brought the musical activities to a complete halt, and it would take long for live music to recover after the strict government imposed lockdowns in Spain.

In 2022, the band, ever forward-looking, once again collaborated with Latin Grammy-awarded engineer/producer Alberto Pérez. They entered the prestigious Sol de Sants Studios in Barcelona to craft the highly anticipated follow-up to »Magara«. Their sophomore album, a testament to their elevated songwriting, showcases a band that is both more mature and still brimming with youthful hunger, poised to ascend to the next level in their career.

To ensure their creation would measure up sonically to their high expectations, the band enlisted the expertise of Robert Pehrsson (Tribulation, Black Paisley, Hazemaze, Märvel) for mixing at Humbucker Studios in Sweden. The final touch came with mastering by Magnus Lindberg (The Hellacopters, Refused, Russian Circles, Lucifer) at Redmount Studios, another testament to The Mothercrow’s commitment to delivering a masterpiece to their growing fanbase.
