Sounds For The Lost Generation

Doomed Confessionary: Lisa, Chris, Amanda & Jemima (Snub)

Snub is a four-piece grunge punk band from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. With the shared influences of the band sitting squarely in the 90s, the fuzz soaked guitars and attitude filled female vocals would be right at home alongside riot grrrl legends L7 or Babes In Toyland, or Aussie alt rock heavyweights like Magic Dirt and Silverchair. Snub brings their own spin to the sound with a more punk rock edge and DIY ethos. It’s heavy, it’s catchy, and this is a band you should not Snub. Their debut album »All Day Glow« dropped on April 24, 2024 in conjunction with Desert Highways.

Snub are Lisa Bell (vocals, guitar), Chris Howe (guitar, vocals), Amanda Gregory (bass) and Jemima Pitcher (drums).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Four friends from Melbourne, Australia who enjoy playing loud, fuzzy riffs and getting sweaty. The slightly deformed love child of all your favourite bands from the 90s.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
It was a slow and challenging start getting the band off the ground. During the pandemic, Melbourne went through a few heavy lockdowns so we would make a little bit of progress and then be unable to play together again for a while. We are glad we stuck with it though!

What can you be most proud of so far?
Our new album »All Day Glow«! It was a long time coming and we had some of these songs for ages, so it felt really good to finally get them out into the world. We are so happy with how everything came together on the album, from the mixing to the artwork to the way the vinyl turned out. Stoked!

What was your biggest regret?
No regrets, just lessons learned!

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
We recently played a show here in Melbourne to launch our album and it’s definitely one of our faves so far. Seeing all of our friends and people we didn’t know come down and celebrate, buy our merch, and sing along to our songs was amazing. It’s easy to sometimes forget why you do this or get overwhelmed when life and band admin gets so hectic, but then you play a show and you’re like “oh yeah, this is why!”.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We’ve made much more of an effort this time with promoting our singles and album than we have in the past. We had a solid plan/timeline and a lot of work that needed to be done with creating content and staying consistent on social media. None of us are really social media people outside of the band. So the biggest surprises out of this have been how much work is actually involved to stay consistent and properly release an album as a DIY band, and how much following the advice and doing the work actually pays off! We are also surprised and humbled how many people have been willing to pay crazy shipping prices to get our vinyl shipped internationally from all the way down here at the bottom of Australia.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
The new Amyl & The Sniffers track is a real earworm and has been on repeat this week!

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Crazy technical skills don’t make a good song! Play what’s right for the music you’re playing. And our advice to other musos is to always be nice to anyone you work with and stay humble.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Buying a coffee and then coming back to drink it after its been sitting in the car for hours, like the world’s shittest iced coffee 😀

Can you say something more about the music scene in Melbourne?
Melbourne has an amazing and super active live music scene. It was crowned live music capital of the world at some point a few years ago! You can go out any night of the week and catch multiple live bands. It can be both a blessing and a curse at times being in a city with so much happening musically.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We have a few local shows coming up in the next month or two (yet to be announced) as well as a couple of cheeky interstate shows (also yet to be announced). Keep an eye on our Instagram to stay up to date.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
We’ve started writing for album number two already 😉 The plan is to keep chugging along, play more shows and spread the gospel of Snub. Some festivals would be cool.

How can people best support your band?
Stream our music on Spotify, buy vinyl and merch from our Bandcamp (they look super cool and you won’t regret it), watch our videos, and come to shows if we’re in your area! And share our stuff with all your friends 😉

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thanks to everyone who has listened to our tracks, bought merch or come to our shows! To the people who have messaged us kind words or shared our stuff with others you’re the fucking best! We’re just getting started and we’re gonna have way more Snub goodness to share with the world – stay onboard and enjoy the ride with us 🙂
