Doomed Confessionary: Lord Gothryd (Wardwell)

Wardwell from Fort Myers, Florida is a two-man musical project that blends elements of gothic doom metal & progressive rock.

The duo consists of Tillson (Gravenchalice, Zwodder) on vocals and Lord Gothryd (Gravenchalice, Psychic Dose) as the main composer/instrumentalist.

Wardwell released debut album »So My Darling Decays…« on October 21st, 2024, which is available now in digital format.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Wardwell is basically my love letter to classic 70s/80s/90s doom metal, if you like slow riffs, gothic atmosphere, and retro production I think you’ll like what we do.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Definetly recording, particularly getting a good sound that we liked, with the added challenge of using real amps and drums, it’s been hard but the efforts have paid off, in my opinion.

What can you be most proud of so far?
The fact that the first album is done, and I can listen to it with no regrets and really stand behind something I’ve released.

What was your biggest regret?
I can’t say there’s anything I truly regret as all the efforts and struggles still bear fruit, however I’ve released material in the past and I wasn’t necessarily proud of how it turned out, but it was all a learning process.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
As of the forseeable future we will not being playing live.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Opeth and My Dying Bride both released great new albums this year.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Mostly old school rock/metal, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Scorpions.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t cling to ideas, I used to hate cutting out parts and changing songs, but many times it’s for the better.

What are your guilty pleasures?
I’ve kinda redisovered my taste for hair/glam metal as of late, Dokken, W.A.S.P., KISS ect., and I even like the power ballads haha.

Can you say something more about current music scene in Fort Myers / Florida?
Locally things are pretty stagnant around here, many venues have shut down due to covid and other complications, I’ve been jamming on drums with some friends so we’ll see where that goes.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
As stated, we will not be playing live in the forseeable future.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
I have about 2 more albums mostly written and some more material as well, I’m devoting time to other ventures at the moment so work on the next album begin sometime later next year.

Do you have any special plans for New Year’s Eve?
Stay at home and have some whiskey or Brandy.

How can people best support your band?
Buy our music and merch on Bandcamp, write some reviews and spread the word.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Enjoy the music! Also give our project Gravenchalice a listen if you haven’t already.
