Doomed Confessionary: Jeremy Dougherty, Kirby Norrell & Gerald Young (Odrot)

Odrot is a psychedelic stoner/doom/sludge trio from Dumas, Texas.
Birthed as a solo project by Jeremy Dougherty in 2016, Odrot has since evolved into a full band: Jeremy Dougherty (guitar, vocals), Kirby Norrell (bass) and Gerald Young (drums).
Hailing from the top of Texas, Odrot blends crunchy, fuzzed tones with chilled, spacey, psychedelic clean tones to create a transcendental experience.
Inspired by the high plains, mk ultra, political corruption, doom and psychadelics, four albums were written and recorded between 2016 and 2022 including »High Plains Drifter«, »Blood For The Gods«, »The Sound Of A System Dying« and »Shift«.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Odrot is a psychedelic portal disguised as a band, a vibrational experiment forged in Dumas, Texas, a dusty town no-one knows or remembers.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Dragging ourselves out of the monotony of small-town life and turning frustration into something worth hearing.
What can you be most proud of so far?
We’ve built something real, raw, and unique. Every time we play, it feels like we’re helping people dissolve the illusion of separateness.
What was your biggest regret?
Regret? That’s just ego clinging to what it thought should’ve been. Every missed opportunity is just a lesson in disguise!
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
The best shows are the ones where we collectively blast off with the audience – when the room turns into a swirling fractal of sound and energy
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
The realization that music isn’t just entertainment – it’s a form of magic. People are hungry for something real, something transcendent, and they show up for it.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Type O Negative, Bummified, Elder, Cradle Of Filth, Agoloch and lo-fi beats.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Don’t forget to tune your guitar.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Guilty? No way, man. Pleasure is sacred!
But okay, maybe, pretending we’re rock stars in a town where the biggest the biggest thing to do is Friday night at Walmart.
Can you say something more about the current music scene in Dumas / Texas?
It’s gritty, it’s patchwork, but it’s alive. There’s nothing polished about it, and that’s the charm.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Wherever the vibe aligns and the stars point us. Bars, fields, maybe a haunted gas station – it’s all sacred ground if the amps are loud enough.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Keep playing, keep blazing, keep dreaming. Maybe one day, the universe will take notice—or maybe not, but we’ll still be here.
How can people best support your band?
Tune in, drop out, and share the journey with us. Share the music. Buy some albums from Bandcamp if you want, but really, just vibe with the sound, and catch a show if you can.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Life’s a mess and the world is getting crazy, but for a few minutes, we can forget that together. So turn it up, tune it out, and let the music do the rest.
